Why do the hosts on so many DIY/HGTV shows exude so much fake energy? The host is so wired he makes me nervous watching the show.
Mike Holmes, for all his faults, never spazzes out and rarely waves his arms around. Neither does Bryan Baumler. Jim Caruk was as cool as ice.
Maybe a hyper-active host diverts viewers' attention away from the atrocious design choices, sloppy workmanship and unsafe work practices. Seriously, it takes 10 minutes to tape off a couple of panels; so why just slop on the chalkboard paint and get it everywhere?
This is easily a bottom-shelf show.

Mr. Young brings a sincere interest in the home owners desire to renovate their kitchens. His insights and experience expose the participants to cutting edge design choices. Using sustainable materials and varied textures bring an eclectic polished finish. We've leaned a lot from watching the show and am looking forward to incorporating lots of his ideas to our kitchen project! Thank you Mr. Young and diy for this entertaining show! We look forward to more.
