An intriguing and fun story about the complicated art of choosing heart versus reason
12 August 2020 | by Rodrigo_AmaroSee all my reviews

Chris (Ed Stoppard) is a confident marriage counselor who loves his work and the help he provides to couples. After all, he had his fair share of relationships and scars from those life experiences which makes him the best guidance in the field. When all is well to this admirable yet single man a surprise from the past comes right on this door when an ex-girlfriend Nicky (Imogen Slaughter) arrives as a patient married with other man. The conflict between the new ignited old flames from the two and his profession stands on the way, revealing his last temptation. Their love affair is back but where do they go from here?

Marcus Markou's short film is a funny, thought-provoking and romantic piece about the unusual and complicated dynamics of relationship, both professional and the ones from the heart. It's never about taking the easiest solution but always about doing what's right (or at least feels that so things don't get messier or feelings get hurt). With this dilema, the former couple (now more passionate than ever) has a perfect scenario for audiences, creating humor, doubts, passion, suspense, and many other sensation to us. Their outcome is never predictable despite an apparent lack of options, either they can go back as they were; start over and more seriously with the girl leaving her husband behind; a sacrifice from both parts with a final decision, We, as audiences are also inclined into that situation because they actually form a nice and intense couple.

So here's a great material for everyone involved and it has the perfect potential to become a feature film with more topics to get explored. Keep the cast, crew and the story refined with the usually refined British humor quality and we'd get countless scenarios for Nicky and Chris to work with - the difference I'd write is for it to have an open ending - the conclusion works though in spite of short films trend demand for leaving something in the air. In a relationship or not "The Last Temptation of Chris" is a must-see for those hearts out there who try to balance reason with emotion and difficult it is with such task. We laugh, we cry, we think and above all we feel. 10/10
