How Guillermo del Toro’s version of Pacific Rim 2 was originally going to end

The sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 mecha-kaiju-brawler Pacific Rim has come a long way from its humble beginnings. The movie was originally helmed by Del Toro until he ultimately decided to step down. The reason for this seems to boil down to scheduling: due to Legendary Pictures being sold to Chinese company The Wanda Group, production needed to be delayed by nearly a year. It was then that Daredevil’s Steven DeKnight took over directorial duties. Since then, the film has undergone a massive makeover, which is clearly evident in the first trailer.

So, what would have Guillermo’s film have looked like? Speaking to Collider. Paul Austerberry — who served as production designer for the original Pacific Rim — revealed how Pacific Rim 2 was originally going to end:

“And then of course I think we finished in the west coast, I think it was San Francisco that we were gonna end up in.

Disney's Mulan Remake Casts Chinese Actress Liu Yifei in Lead Role

Disney's Mulan Remake Casts Chinese Actress Liu Yifei in Lead Role
Disney has finally found their leading lady for the live-action adaptation of the 1998 animated classic Mulan, with Chinese actress Liu Yifei coming aboard as the title character. The actress, who has also been known as Crystal Liu, has been selected after a year-long, worldwide casting search was conducted by the studio, which came after Disney promised an all-Asian cast back in October 2016. It seems that the studio is living up to that promise, but this new report reveals that it was quite an exhaustive search to find the right actress to play Mulan.

This report reveals that Disney enlisted five different casting directors who scoured the globe, who visited five different continents and saw over 1,000 actresses for the role. Among the primary requirements for the role were demonstrable martial arts skills, proficiency in the English language along with that intangible "star quality" that the studio has found in Liu Yifei.

Pacific Rim Uprising director says a crossover with Godzilla and King Kong is a possibility

Back in September when it was first announced that Legendary Pictures were planning a shared universe between Godzilla and King Kong, rumours surfaced about the possibility of the studio bringing Pacific Rim’s Jaegers and Kaiju into the mix for a crossover of monster proportions.

Since then, we’ve heard nothing else about the prospect; however, Steven S. DeKnight, director of the upcoming sequel Pacific Rim Uprising, has revealed to Collider that talks have taken place and there is a chance that the crossover could become a reality.

“I won’t say there’s an Easter Egg but there’s been a lot of discussion about that possibility [of crossing over],” said DeKnight. “Look I think it would be fantastic to have the Pacific Rim universe join Legendary’s Monster Universe, it seems like a natural step. And part of the big overall plan after the third movie we’ve talked about is that could happen,

Pacific Rim Uprising a “launching pad” for a shared universe

Following the release of the first trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising, Nerdist caught up with director Steven S. DeKnight to discuss the film, with DeKnight revealing that the plan is for the sequel to serve as a “launching pad” for an entire transmedia franchise featuring movies, spinoff films, comics and even an animated series.

“I’m certainly hoping so,” said DeKnight. “I think you’ll definitely probably get more comics. The plan was always to use this movie as a launching pad. If enough people show up to this, we’ve already talked about the plot of the third movie, and how the end of the third movie would expand the universe to a Star Wars/Star Trek-style [franchise] where you can go in many, many different directions. You can go main canon, you can go spin-offs, you can go one-offs. Yeah, that’s the plan. And I would love

Marvel and Netflix have created something truly special with their four superhero shows: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. They've established a unique, ongoing, and shared universe that not only respects each character's source material, but also builds upon and expands their lore. Fans have clearly responded, as many media outlets report that these are some of the most-popular shows on Netflix.

Daredevil is heading into its third season, while Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are each preparing for their second, but what about the fate of Iron Fist? According to SuperBroMovies, Danny Rand himself, actor Finn Jones, will soon issue a Season 2 announcement. China’s Box Office Fraud: How Phony Ticket Sales Hurt the Film Industry

Fraudulent activity in China’s film industry has been suspected for years, but only recently has the country begun cracking down on companies that have cooked the books. Last November, China’s National People’s Congress established new fines for companies that misreport box office sales, ranging from roughly $7,000 to $74,000, Voa News reported. In 2015, the makers of the Chinese film “Monster Hunt” admitted to giving moviegoers 40 million free tickets in order to boost its numbers and beat out Universal Pictures’ “Furious 7” for the distinction of highest-grossing title in mainland China.
