  • In Seattle, Det. Sarah Linden is on what is supposed to be her last day on the job. She and her son Jack are supposed to leave that evening to join her fiancé in Sonoma. Her replacement, Det. Stephen Holder, is ready to take over but they answer a call from a patrol car who have found a bloodied sweater in a field. When the missing girl, Rosie Larsen, is found in the trunk of a car at the bottom of a lake it turns out the car is registered to the campaign committee for councilman Darren Richmond, who is running for mayor. Linden delays her departure for what she hopes will be only a few days.

  • This dark crime drama follows two detectives, as they are put on the cases of the disappearance of a teenage girl, the murders of runaway children, and the massacre of a wealthy family. As the stories progress, the lives of those affected by the events intertwine.

  • Rosie Larsen is brutally murdered in the midst of an acrimonious mayoral election between arrogant incumbent fatcat, Lesley Adams, and idealistic political newcomer, Darren Richmond. The murder virtually explodes throughout the media and soon, no one and nothing is sacred. Rosie was drowned, her body was found locked in the trunk of a vehicle registered to the Richmond campaign. The scenes are rainy and grey but frequently, the jewel that is Seattle glitters through the precipitation. The worst aspects of humanity: insularity, intolerance, greed, intransigence and the inability to admit imperfection are placed on painful display as the investigation into Rosie's murder snowballs. Relationships are either forged in steel or else stretched beyond capacity as secrets are revealed. Through the tireless work of very unlikely partners, Detectives Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder, several painful situations have closure.

  • A police investigation, the saga of a grieving family, and a Seattle mayoral campaign all interlock after the body of 17-year-old Rosie Larsen is found in the trunk of a submerged car.
