Storyline

After confirmation by a terrified Katherine that the single ash-bound knife can kill an original vampire, Damon invites Elijah to a dinner party to stab him. Alaric finds out a nasty limitation to that method. Meanwhile, Stefan tells Elena about the time when he was a vicious vampire, Damon tries to do right, and John Gilbert plays a surprisingly positive part. Jeremy can't prevent 'immature' witch Bonnie from being questioned and suitably punished by accomplished Luka. Written by KGF Vissers

Quotes

[last lines]
Katherine Pierce: [emerging from shower] Hello, Damon. Hey, do you have a robe?
Damon Salvatore: How did you get out?
Katherine Pierce: I knew that if I begged you not to kill Elijah, that's exactly what you'd do. Little known fact: Originals can compel vampires, but... as soon as they die,
[shakes her head]
Katherine Pierce: compulsion wears off.
Damon Salvatore: And you knew...
[eyes narrowing]
Katherine Pierce: And I'm still here. I didn't run. Meant what I said, Damon. I'm going to help you. So...
[confidently facing him]

Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner at Damon's Place?
31 October 2013 | by claudio_carvalhoSee all my reviews

Damon invites Elijah to a dinner party with Jenna, Alaric, Andie Star and him at his house with the intent of killing the original vampire. He visits Katherine that begs him to not kill Elijah, since she is compelled by him to stay in the tomb. Damon is convinced that he can kill Elijah with the dagger and the ashes and the uninvited John appears in the party. Meanwhile Elena reads John Gilbert's journal and discovers that only a human can kill an original vampire. Stefan warns Alaric that saves Damon stabbing Elijah. However, Damon removes the dagger from Elijah and he revives, seeking out Elena to tell that his deal with her is off. Elena asks him to keep the deal of protecting his friends, otherwise she will commit suicide and Elijah believes that she is bluffing. Meanwhile, Dr. Jonas Martin removes Bonnie's witch powers.

"The Dinner Party" is among the best episodes of this Second Season, with many plot points and a surprising conclusion. I do not understand why Alaric returned his ring to John and I am looking forward to see Damon's reaction against this despicable character. My vote is nine.
