Stefan and Elena attempt a romantic weekend getaway, not realizing that they've been followed. Damon attends a tea at the Historical Society.

Stefan agrees to a weekend with Elena at the Gilbert lake cabin, where they find the missing Gilbert journals. Back home, Damon attends a historical society function to meet Elijah and is unexpectedly captured by Elijah's acolytes, but survives torture until he can escape. Elijah end up finding the hidden moonstone. Tyler is recruited for the werewolf pack's cause to reverse the Sun and the Moon curse, but won't help with a sacrific. Tyler assures Matt that he and Caroline are "just friends" and that she is still in love with Matt. Jeremy, Bonnie and Caroline learn from Luka that Elijah seeks an alternative spell breaker.—KGF Vissers

Jules and Brady are disposing of the bodies of the other werewolves when Stevie arrives and tells about the Sun and the Moon curse and the moonstone. They decide to kidnap the doppelgänger, Elena, to break the curse and kill every vampire in Mystic Falls. Meanwhile, Stefan and Elena plan a weekend alone in a remote cabin that belonged to her parents. Damon shows Alaric the weapons that John has given him to kill Klaus. Tyler visits Jules and she asks him to betray his friends with the help of Brady and Stevie to break the curse. Jules, Stevie and two other werewolves capture and torture Damon to get the moonstone, but Elijah rescues Damon again, killing the werewolves, but Jules escapes. Meanwhile, Brady chases Elena while Tyler fights Stefan to keep him from breaking the curse. However, Stefan tells Tyler that Elena has to die in order to break the curse. Bonnie, Caroline and Jeremy abduct Luka to find out the truth about Elijah and they find that he intends to kill the doppelganger. Stefan and Elena get away for what they hope will be a romantic weekend at the Gilbert family lake house, not realizing that they've been followed. Jenna starts to worry that Alaric isn't being honest with her. Jules explains the importance of the sun and moon curse to Tyler, but leaves out an important detail. Damon attends a tea at the Historical Society in order to talk to Elijah, but Elijah isn't giving up any secrets. With help from Caroline and Jeremy, Bonnie uses deceptive measures to get shocking new information out of Luka. Finally, Tyler offers Matt some relationship advice.—CW Publicity

Jules (Michaela McManus) and her tough guy boyfriend Brady (Stephen Amell) clean up after the vampire smackdown in the woods. A younger werewolf Stevie confesses Mason was asking about the moonstone down in Florida. He thinks they're trying to break the curse.

Brady says they can't let them, even if they have to kill every vampire in town.

In the morning, Elena (Nina Dobrev) wakes up at the slumber party at Caroline's. Stefan (Paul Wesley) calls and she suggests he take her away.

Andie Starr (Dawn Olivieri) comes downstairs at Damon's. Not dead, but sporting a well-placed neck bandage. She tells him she's interviewing some historian in town: Elijah Smith (Daniel Gillies).

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) wraps a scarf around her neck, compels her to make sure that she's forgotten the bite and is falling for him, and sends her on her way.

Alaric (Matthew Davis) comes by and Damon tells him what John (David Anders) said about how to kill an Original. Ric and Jenna (Sara Canning) were supposed to go away but are staying in town for some Historical Society thing. Damon wants to go because Elijah will be there.

Caroline (Candice King) sits with Bonnie (Kat Graham) at the Grill. Bonnie explains her plan to make Luka (Bryton James) tell her what Elijah is up to. Matt (Zach Roerig) sees Caroline and gives her an icy stare. She has no idea why.

Out in the woods, Tyler (Michael Trevino) visits with Jules, Stevie and Brady. They want his help finding the moonstone. They bring him up to speed on the curse, including the part where if werewolves break it they can turn at will.

Tyler likes the idea he wouldn't have to turn again. They tell him about the doppelganger and think Mason's hot vampire girlfriend "Kathy" would know. They show him the picture of Katerina. He says it's Elena Gilbert.

Caroline says hi to Matt at the Grill. He doesn't want to talk. He tells her he knows she wasn't with Bonnie last night.

Tyler comes in to talk to Caroline and knocks her purse to the ground trying to stop her. He helps her pick the contents back up. She won't talk to him.

Caroline leaves and Matt tells Tyler that he can't stop them from getting together but they should stop lying about it.

Elena and Stefan prepare for their romantic weekend. Caroline texts saying she needs to talk, but says never mind when Elena tells her where she's going.

Cut to Tyler with Caroline's phone. He tells the werewolves where Elena's going.

At the lake house, Elena realizes she hasn't been there since before her parents died.

At the Historical Society shindig, Carol Lockwood chats up Elijah, introducing Damon.

Bonnie brings Luka coffee at the Grill. Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) joins Caroline at a table and is mildly jealous. Luka drinks some coffee and gets woozy.

At the lake, Elena wonders about her future with Stefan.

At the Historical Society reception, John threatens Alaric. John wants to tell Jenna about Alaric's work with Damon. He tells Alaric not to sleep over any more and that he wants Isabelle's ring back.

Damon asks Elijah why he's in town. Elijah pins Damon to show who's in charge. Then he stabs him in the neck with a letter opener, then gives him a handkerchief to staunch the blood.

"I'm an Original, show some respect," Elijah says. "The moment you cease to be of use to me, you're dead."

At the house, Stefan cooks dinner while Elena finds all her parents stuff still there. They start making out but knock against a wall. Stefan notices it's hollow.

He removes the boards and finds a door. There are crossbows, stakes and other vampire hunting tools inside.

Bonnie prepares to hypnotize Luka. Caroline encourages Jeremy's crush on Bonnie.

Luka wakes up and Bonnie holds his head.

Back at the Salvatores', Damon licks his wounds with scotch. He concludes Elijah is going to be hard to kill. Ric asks him about Andie. Ric asks Damon not to kill her because she's friends with Jenna. Ric gets up to leave.

Damon hears a noise. He comes to the door to see Ric with a dagger in his side. Stevie the werewolf drops down and stabs Damon in the neck with something. Damon fights back but passes out.

The werewolves come in. Stevie announces Ric is dead.

Elena goes through the other Jonathan Gilbert journals.

Back in the camper, Brady tries to convince Tyler to fight against the vampires because they killed Mason. Tyler agrees to go along.

Jenna comes home to find John pouring himself some wine. He accuses her of being irresponsible for letting Elena go away with Stefan. He calls Ric a liar and tells her to ask what happened to Isabelle.

Damon comes to with a collar around his neck. Ric lies seemingly dead in front of him.

Stevie demonstrates his wooden nail torture collar on Damon. Jules asks about the moonstone. Damon tells them they'll get nothing from torture and someone will lose a heart.

Bonnie asks Luka why they're working with Elijah. He says they both want Klaus dead because they have to get his sister away from him. Elijah promised to get her back.

Klaus is looking for a way to undo the curse without the doppelganger.

She asks how to kill an Original. Luka says Klaus will be vulnerable after the sacrifice. "Elena has to die," he says.

Stefan goes looking for wood outside at the lake house. He turns around and Brady shoots him in the chest. Tyler is there. Brady gives Tyler the gun and tells him to shoot Stefan if he moves.

Stefan tells Tyler he has to get the bullet out of his heart. Tyler mentions the curse. Stefan tells him they don't want to break the curse.

Tyler says he does and shoots Stefan in the leg. Stefan tells him he just wants to save Elena. He realizes they didn't tell Tyler that part.

"In order to break the curse, Elena has to die," Stefan tells him.

In the house, Elena gets nervous. Brady waits outside the door. She picks up a knife and goes outside. Brady is waiting for her. She stabs him and runs inside.

He takes out the knife and breaks in. He follows her through the house. She gets back downstairs, slams the front door and runs back into the house.

She comes up behind him in the secret room and stabs him again.

She's running for the car with Brady on her heels, but he steps outside the door after her and Stefan appears and swiftly rips out his heart.

She sees Tyler. He apologizes, saying he didn't know what they were going to do to her. "I just didn't want to be like this anymore," he says.

Stefan is recovered.

Elena hugs Tyler.

Back at Damon's, Jules prepares to blast Damon with buckshot when Elijah appears in the doorway with the moonstone.

He puts it down and invites the werewolves to come for it. Three try, and pay with their hearts.

Jules runs. Stevie declines to go for it. Elijah cracks him across the head, breaking his neck.

Elijah frees Damon. "You realize this is the third time I've saved your life now?" he says. He takes the moonstone and leaves.

Bonnie calls Damon and tells him Elijah planned to kill Elena the whole time. Ric wakes up, protected by the ring. He calls Jenna.

Damon and Stefan catch up.

Elena isn't surprised about Elijah's plan. She says Elijah's deal was to protect her friends, not her. Stefan tells her she's being a martyr.

After Luka's mind tricks, Caroline takes him away. Bonnie assures Jeremy that Luka won't remember anything.

Jeremy's turning to go, when Bonnie tells him he's Elena's little brother and she remembers all his awkward phases, but how he's "this hot guy."

He only hears she thinks he's hot. She starts talking about curses and sacrifices. "Enough already," he says, then kisses her.

Carol Lockwood comes home and sees flowers with a card which says "Mom."

Cut to Tyler going to Matt at The Grill, saying Caroline has helped him through a hard time and he fell for her, but she loves Matt and needs him.

He tells Matt to be good to her. "See you around," Tyler says.

At home, Caroline hears something and goes to the door and locks it. Tyler waits outside but says nothing.

Tyler gets in Jules' car. He says he's sorry about Brady and her friends, but he doesn't want any more lies. "I can't stay here, not like this," he says.
