MPAA Rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence and intense action, partial nudity and some strong language

Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • Several strong extended battle scenes with guns, knives, bows and arrows, spears with bloody detail being minimal. People are crushed, thrown, and blown up
  • Children are held at threat throughout the film.
  • The violence is strong but fantasy/sci-fi based.
  • A man has his arm sliced off by the wire of a harpoon gun. Not very bloody, but it is shown onscreen in detail
  • A body is scene on screen, decomposed to just bones. A character takes the skull and crushes it in his hands.
  • Much, MUCH more violent than the first film.
  • While there is very little "gore" (one scene a man gets his arm lopped off and it goes flying)... the violence and body-count is through the roof.

  • 7 uses of a-s 14 uses of sh-t 11 uses of d-mn 3 uses of b-tch
  • One F-bomb said by a teenager, gratuitous, very audible and unnecessary to the plot (and very out-of-context coming from a Pandoran character). A few minor profanities scattered infrequently throughout. Jesus is used once.
  • A man shows two middle fingers in a scene

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • None. No alcohol or smoking or any mention of substance use.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Scenes of threat include characters being held at knife or gun point, evading gunfire and explosions, almost drowning in a sinking vessel, and being pursued by large monsters.
  • The ending is very emotional and depressing.
  • Though very little "gore" (one brief scene really), the violence and body count made this seem more a war movie than anything else. Considerably more violent than the first movie. This could be better defined as an "action adventure flick" rather than Avatar 2.

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • There is a sequence of scenes depicting a whaling type of hunt, the hunt and harpooning is shown in detail and post hunt dissection is shown. This could be disturbing for sensitive viewers. This is made even worse since it is revealed the "whales" are more intelligent than humans.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In the beginning, humans (sky people) return in spacecrafts that, as they land, burn down several miles of the forest and the animals inhabiting it
  • Neteyam dies in the middle of the film's final battle. This can be emotional for some.
  • In one scene, Neytiri goes completely berserk upon her son's death, brutally murdering several humans in the process.
