I have been a big fan of Scooby Doo for as long as I can remember. The original series, The Scooby Doo Show and The New Scooby Doo Movies I love, Mystery Incoporated was a pleasant surprise, Shaggy and Scooby Doo:Get a Clue was a disgrace(the only one I hate) and What's New Scooby Doo and 13 Ghosts are growing on me. I have also been pleasantly surprised by most of the animated movies, and the live action ones too. I wanted to like Curse of the Lake Monster but it didn't work for me really. There are some good points, Scooby is very cute, Shaggy is still the likable goof-ball I love and Daphne and especially Velma are spot. I didn't like Fred though(but I actually didn't mind him Mystery Begins), and this is not just because of the appearance, for my liking he wasn't macho or cool enough here. Some of the locations are nice and the soundtrack has this infectious energy. However, the editing is rather sloppy in some scenes, sometimes rather hectic in the more tense moments. Also the writing was weak with one too many gags that tried too hard and failed due to lacklustre timing and insipid dialogue and the story is rushed and predictable with the whole Shaggy and Velma idea absurd and never once believable. None of the support characters struck me as memorable either, and the rest of the acting as well as the direction seemed rather bland for my tastes. All in all, didn't work but not a complete disaster. 4/10 Bethany Cox

After the success of 'The Mystery Begins' it was no surprise to see the cast of that film return for more antics in these prequels to the live action Scooby films of the early 2000's.
I think this one is much more of a homage to classic Scooby Doo, from the actors starting to wear much more 'traditional' costumes for their characters, to the inclusion of classic gags and monsters.
The Shaggy/Velma love plot won't please everyone but it is well played by the actors who seem much more into their characters this time around.
The only sticking point for me is the inclusion of the musical numbers that seem out of place with the rest of the film but that's only a small down side to what is actually a good fun film.

I grew up with the Scooby Doo cartoon and loved it as a kid and when they brought out the first Scooby live action movie; I was dubious. Thing was, I loved it! I also quite enjoyed the second movie although not as much as the first.
When it came to the original cast, I had issues with Freddie Prinze Jr as Fred as I felt he wasn't butch enough and Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, because she was both a little too short and I had not yet got over my Buffy crush; but Matthew Lillard as Shaggy was, quite simply, awesome.
This, unfortunately is where this movie falls down. Though I don't doubt the effort of Nick Palatas as Shaggy and indeed his acting chops (he is a young actor starting out) but following Matthew Lillard's Shaggy was always going to be a tall order. What also doesn't help is having a dark haired Fred in the form of Robbie Amell, I struggled to recognise him as Fred.
However, the Daphne (Kate Melton) character I though was excellent and if I could transplant her for Gellar in the first; I would without a second thought.
Bottom line, not a great movie but I guarantee your young children will enjoy it. For the rest of us, its a sad reflection.

Since when did Scooby become about the gang dating each other? Ewww. Half way through, my kids asked, if it's called Scooby Doo and the Curse of the Lake Monster, how come there is hardly any Scooby in it? Seriously, half the movie was about relationships, the mystery was secondary. Not really a SPOILER, but don't read ahead if you don't want to know useless absurd plot points: Fred secretly dating Daphne but hanging out with other girls, Daphne trying to make him jealous with boys, Shaggy secretly in love with Velma, Scooby jealous of the date between Shaggy and Velma. It's just wrong. And musical numbers? They were cute, but since when does Scooby Doo have musical numbers? On the plus side, it had Marion Ross (I hope she was paid a bunch), a guy in a rubber suit, and live action versions of classic gags, like running in and out of doors in a long hallway. The actors playing Shaggy and Velma were good, but please get a blond Fred (and not a dark haired guy in a wig), it's just wrong.

Question to the filmmakers first. Did you guys intend on taking a classic that the world has grown up with, and making a plot that involves a ghost instead of a person in a mask, having scooby be violent, pushing the idea of girlfriends WAY too much, and worse of all, having shaggy IN LOVE with Velma? Seriously? And what was with the whole dance stuff at the end? Funny, but what was the point? At any rate, here's another attempt to make a live action film with special effects and base it on classics. Only to change around things and make it completely wrong. Shaggy and Velma? Seriously? The joke with Fred and Daff is just that, a joke people have created. DON'T take a joke and make it become part of the plot. And having scooby become RUDE and mean and cruel is WRONG.
But there is some stars I've giving this movie. In this case, at least they tried. There was no swearing to my knowledge. The gang DID solve a mystery. But in the end, this IS cartoon network in 2010, so I'm not surprised it isn't as good as it could have been.

It would appear in this day and age, that all the good ideas have been used up and either the movie makers 'remake' an already iconic film, or they re-brand it, changing it into something that resembles the original but in no way copies it 'frame by frame'. In this instance, Scooby Doo and the gang are mere shadows of their original characters; using ideas that are part of this made for TV prequel, and to be honest, failing miserably!
Going into the story-line would be a pointless exercise, purely because there is a mystery to solve; no surprises there! There are red herrings and misadventures, again, no surprises. Shaggy is a beatnik who wears green and brown with a goatee; Velma is smart, wears glasses, has bobbed hair, no surprises here either!
However, Fred now has dark hair (his style is like those in Glee), Daphne is tall and looks 30, and neither of the actors could act their way out of a wet paper bag. Robbie Amell, the piece of wood that plays Fred (who 'acts' as Fred would imply this fella has any acting ability at all) and Kate Melton (again, a plank of wood), seem to have never seen what the characters actually say and do...apparently this was important for Shag and Velma (and Scooby in CGI sort of way), so why not Fred and Daphne?
There is this new idea from Scooby 1 & 2 (proper movies with big name actors and some sort of budget) who started this 'let's have a dating contest' which somehow cheats the viewer into making the characters really human...not the cartoon characters in the original 1970's episodes. I'm honestly surprised that I didn't mind the Brian Levant duology. It's not as good as the Gunn/Gosnell duology (mainly Monsters Unleashed), but I didn't really have much of a problem with these two films. This one is slightly weaker than The Mystery Begins, but it still captures the charm of the cartoons and the chemistry between the Mystery Inc. Is still very much intact (which Scoob failed to do for the most part). The CGI for Scooby is still crappy, but it looks a little better here too.
Yeah, I'm surprised. These films could have just been soulless cash-ins, but they honestly ain't bad.

I'm a fan of the original animated Scooby Doo TV series (1969-1970). It was against these episodes I judged the theatrical releases Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby Doo 2: Monster's Unleased (2004). When I saw Curse of the Lake Monster was a feature length movie, without thinking about it I had my expectations set for something comparable to the two theater releases. Oops! Curse of the Lake Monster was a B-movie in many ways, including overt over-the-top acting. I'm not a fan of B-movies and must confess to having some trouble sitting through it all. I would say the movie is a bit worse than Scooby Doo 2. The pace was good and the plot moved along reasonably well. I had no problem at all with the special effects--they were fine.
I consider the brown-haired Fred a production decision blunder. While it stopped bothering me half way through the movie, I never started thinking of Fred as Fred. He was more like a new character to me. Shaggy is very difficult to translate from animation to live action, and I think greater energy put into the character would have been an improvement. The second of two TV movie prequels to the 2002 and 2004 big screen live-action outings. Standout (again) is Hayley Kiyoko's Velma, whilst Nick Palatas continues to be a pretty good Shaggy (although his voice does cross the line into 'annoyingly grating' a couple of times). Kate Melton and Robbie Amell seem more settled in the roles of Fred and Daphne this time around, and Frank Welker does his usual great job voicing Scooby. This movie carries even more nods/winks to the cartoons than the first, with some nice references, visual gags, sound effects, and meta-humour. The CGI on Scooby is pretty good. Plot-wise it's typical Scooby fare, following the live-action trend of involving the 'real' supernatural AND somebody in a mask. Slightly better than the first. 6.5/10

I am a Scooby Doo lifer. I am only 21 years old but from the day I started watching television as a young pup I was always watching Scooby Doo. While I enjoyed both Scooby Doo 1 and Scooby Doo 2 and thought they portrayed the characters almost to perfection I think this Scooby and the 1 before are a disgrace to Scooby Doo himself.. Since when did Scooby become about dating and since when did the gang start dating one another?? Shaggy and Velma? I mean come on thats a dang joke! This movie was a shameful and even disgraceful excuse for a Scooby movie and Scoob wasn't even in half the dang movie! I highly recommend not even wasting your money or your time.

This Scooby Doo movie was a bit light on the Actual Scooby Doo. Whether it was just too hard to act with an imaginary dog, or too expensive to animate him into every scene, the gang spends a lot of time with out Scooby. Which makes the Mystery fairly easy to guess who the monster is.
On the up side, there are some great Rubber Suit Frog Monsters! And there is a wonderful "By the Light of the Moon" sequence too. Generally I hate songs in cartoons, but this one was awesome.
There was a lot of great touches that made this feel like a Japanese TV show of the likes of Ultraman or Masked Rider. The cartoon feel was prevalent, though many gags failed.
The cast was pretty good. Coming off the first one, "The Mystery Begins" I feel they gelled better this time out. Shaggy does steel the show.
I think more money and better production values would have helped, and maybe a better helmer, but I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

First, some background: I have no childhood memories of Scooby-Doo, because he did not exist until I was 22 years old. Due to the vagaries of life, I was not aware of Scooby and friends until I was about 35, but I'm glad I've gotten to know them, as they're so inculcated into modern culture. Without having seen them, I would not have known what Deadpool's girlfriend meant when she said "Ruh-Ro!"
I've now seen both animated and live-action Scooby tales, and I think this is one of my favorites, and definitely better than the 2018 films. I also prefer it to the 2002 story, with Freddie Prinze Jr. I shall continue to enjoy Scooby in my dotage.

"Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster" is a Comedy - Adventure movie in which we watch Scooby-Doo and his gang enjoying some time off since school is out. On their vacation they find a Lake Monster and they come together to solve this mystery.
Since I had already watched the previous movie of Scooby-Doo, I knew what to expect from this movie and I had some expectations by it. I have to admit that, I was a bid disappointed by it since I was expecting to be better from the first movie. The direction which was made by Brian Levant, it was simple and not as good as in the previous movie because through its whole duration I had the feeling that we were on a hurry to finish the movie and cover every plot hole was created. In conclusion, I have to say that "Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster" is an average comedy movie that if you have watched the previous one I am sure you will be disappointed by this one.

OK Firstly the people writing these reviews are either blind or haven't seen any of the other Live-action Scooby films, Scooby Doo 2:Monsters Unleashed was simply the BEST THUS FAR, WATCH IT BEFORE YOU COMMENT !!! Shaggy simply couldn't be replaced in this version, acting was great but character representation was OK, Velma on the other hand was a fresh and very appropriate face(Nerdy Look), Daph acted SUPERB but should have been sexier(Hot, Spot On Attractive, Sarah Michelle Gellar was ALMOST PERFECT, but short in stature...), FRED was well a JOKE ! LOL, Messed up his Character BIG TIME(Brown Hair != Blond Hair)..., mind you Robbie Amell acted VERY WELL !, but alas for the WRONG ROLE !

Day 5 Of My 31 Days Of Horror 2.
After the very mediocre film Scooby Doo The Mystery Begins Cartoon Network decided to release another made for TV Flick titled Scooby Doo Curse Of The Lake Monster. Just another Mediocre film.
The film follows Fred played by Robbie Amell Daphne played by Kate Melton Velma played by Hayley Kiyoko Shaggy played by Nick Palantas and Scooby Doo voiced by Frank Welker As they go on vacation. However their vacation is cut short after a lake monster mysteriously appears.
This film is just like the last one. I love the chemistry between Shaggy and Scooby Doo. But like I said For the last one the performances done by Amell Melton and Kiyoko are not done very well and the story just did not grab and hold my attention through the film. Like the last film I just cannot recommend it.
Rated PG For Some Mild Scary Action.

I don't think this is the worst scooby doo movie. It's just not as good as the previous one. There was no memorable music or moments. I just think this film focuses way too much on Fred and Daphane and Shaggy and Velma's relationship more then anything.
What really annoyed me was that they had Richard Moll (the voice of Two Face from the DCAU shows) wasted.
However the acting is good and the story mystery was decent.
Well, my kid was entertained.

(Yeah, there's a couple spoilers below.) But then, my kid didn't grow up with Scooby Doo. This is the sorriest excuse for a reboot/prequel/whatever-that-was I've ever seen. They can't be bothered to even get Fred's hair color right. Oh, wait. This is before he "went blonde", I guess.
The biggest annoyance is they mess with the core theme of all the Scooby Doo shows - there ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS GHOSTS/GOBLINS/Ghouls etc. But in this one, there's a real possession and real magic. Ooooo, spooky. NOT. The second biggest annoyance is the attempt at a "love story" between Fred and Daphne and between Shaggy and Velma. Oh, puh-lease. All those years of Mystery Inc, and there was an unrevealed "past" between them all? Not buying it.
This was so lame, they had to resort to the only cartoon character (that'd be Scooby)doing "cartoon" jokes, like painting a fake doorway and then going through it to get some laughs. These jokes were just stuck in at various times. The story didn't hinge on them.
Anybody under the age of three will like this, it's got Scooby Doo in it. A kid of five will probably wonder why they messed with a good cartoon. Anybody that grew up with Scooby Doo will consider it painful to have to sit through. My kid's a teenager. Their tastes are incomprehensible.

I just watched this movie. For a Cartoon Original, it wasn't that bad. Actually, pretty well done. Scooby and the gang have to solve the mystery of a Lake Monster. It had some funny parts, mainly targeted for younger kids. I have always loved the original series from the 60's. I was pretty disappointed with the other Scooby Doo movies earlier in 2003. The other Cartoon Network one from 2009 was also good. The plot, although not original, still has refreshing parts. I really advise anyone who loved the series as a child. If you only liked the original series and would hat to watch this, then don't. I thought this was a good movie for a Saturday night.

SPOILERS!! For one, the point of any episode or film in the Scooby-Doo franchise is to figure out who the masked villain is before the gang does. The best episodes and movies really build up multiple suspects or makes it hard to figure out who the villain really is.
Approximately one hour into this film I had it all figured out. That's not good. The plot was way too easy to decipher, even without reading any online spoilers.
Why is this not really a Scooby-Doo movie? For one there is not a masked villain and the supernatural aspect is indeed real.
Of course, "Mystery Begins" had real ghosts and real magic, but it was easy to dismiss this as a fluke. The first two live action films portrayed real monsters but those films happened much later in their careers, whereas if they battle real monsters and ghosts in the prequels, why is it so hard for them to believe in such things later on? Continuity is completely thrown out.
This film could be called "Scooby-Doo Meets The Exorcist And The Frog People Invade Lake Erie".
Though I must admit that they handled the love story between Shaggy and Velma 200 times better than what atrocities they've been committing in "Mystery Incorporated".
I gave this a 5 because it was alright, but I had hoped for a lot better. I grew up watching scooby and seen every single episode, including the new ones... I loved seeing they used young new faces, I think they all played their role well, they even seemed like they were having fun... I personally disagree with many of the post's on here. First of all... When I was in my high school years I do not look the SAME... Including the color of my hair... The mystery begins and the curse of the lake monster is the young version of the gang so people need to understand the first two movies (the higher paid actors)cannot pass on looking young, sorry... And why do we have to have them look the same all the while growing up!?! Why make it too repetitive??? Change is good so I think people need to lighten up in this area...
Not that I am knocking the first two or anything but I felt that Shaggy and Scooby were the only ones playing their role the best in the first two... It also did not bother me when they had Fred with brown hair! Cartoons never went in depth about Fred being BLONDE ALL HIS LIFE EITHER! I think people need to loosen up here and give it a chance... I think this gang are great! I do agree that Scooby should have been played more, but again the gang is just starting together remember.... I hope they continue the series... My boys love them and I enjoy it with them...

It also did not bother me when they had Fred with brown hair! Cartoons never went in depth about Fred being BLONDE ALL HIS LIFE EITHER! I think people need to loosen up here and give it a chance... I think this gang are great! I do agree that Scooby should have been played more, but again the gang is just starting together remember.... I hope they continue the series... My boys love them and I enjoy it with them...

I disagree with the majority of the reviews on this one. I see it as a fitting tribute to Scooby and the gang. Yes, they changed a few things, but the spirit is still there. That being said, one of my sticking points is, yes, there is a shortage of our favorite Great Dane, but the scenes that feature are spot on to the characterization of him. The slapstick is great. I would recommend this if you go in with no expectations.

Probably the worst scooby doo I've seen ever.
Made worse by the fact that some of these guys can really act and this makes them. Look incompetent.
I'd much rather put the original 2 live actions on repeat than sit and watch this again.

Sequel of the prequel of 2002 live action, that repeats all the characteristics (and the stereotypes) of the first one. Here the subplots are about the love between Fred and Daphne and the improbable love between Shaggy and Wilma: both are resolved with all the cliché of a story that discovers friendship and love toward the adventure, but with the difference that the second one is rapidly cancelled to permit that in the successive movies Shaggy and Wilma are not engaged. This happens without any kind of deepening of psychological dimension and it reveals all its artificial condition. In conclusion a kids movie not as bad as others, but surely useless and undefined.

I'm not going in depth at all on this film. Caught this while browsing on the tv. Sunday nothing to put on so thought why not. My 6 year old has starting watching the films now
I'm going to start this off by saying I'm comparing this to the other two scooby doo movies 2002 & 2004 which are great he loved and I thought they were watchable and I loved enjoyed them too.
This Scooby doo is awful the acting is so bad the plot is boring and the film is a mess how can they ruin a scooby doo film after the good films in the past.
It was so cringy to watch I haven't watched the previous one to this with the same cast but after seeing this don't think I want to.
Avoid this film if you can
