A great documentary if you love Bach, but....
10 April 2013 | by jgrinyerSee all my reviews

For lovers of Bach's music you'll find little to fault with this documentary. However for the casual viewer the film comes across as a little too enthusiastic and one sided.

The documentary is essentially a 2 hour compendium of (largely north American) talking heads gushing uncritical praise on Bach and his works, interspersed with pieces of Bach's music performed on a variety of instruments. The documentary assumes the viewer already knows Bach's biography (this is certainly not a history lesson) and there is little context or comparison to other composers of his generation.

Non-Bach lovers may come away from this film feeling a little unfulfilled, you have been warned.
