Blumhouse Exec Confirms Halloween Will Be R-Rated

Throughout the last twelve months or so, Blumhouse Productions, the studio behind horror franchises such as Ouija and The Purge, has quietly garnered a sterling reputation at the box office. The Jason Blum-founded company oversaw projects like the James McAvoy-led Split and the fourth installment in James Wan’s Insidious series, The Last Key, both of which turned massive profits on minimal budgets.

The studio’s crowning achievement, however, didn’t arrive until recently, when Jordan Peele’s mammoth success, Get Out, pocketed four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Daniel Kaluuya), and Best Original Screenplay, despite only being victorious in the latter.

Hoping to keep the momentum going now, this October will see Blumhouse Productions release the much-anticipated sequel to John Carpenter’s distinguished horror classic, Halloween. The reimagining will apparently disregard each subsequent entry into the horror series, proceeding Carpenter’s original 1978 film,

Universal Wins Bidding War For Stephen King’s The Tommyknockers

The portioning of Stephen King’s oeuvre continues today, as Universal Pictures won a three-way bidding war against Netflix and Sony for Atomic Monster Productions’ feature film package centered on the author’s 1987 novel, The Tommyknockers. The project had been making the rounds following several studios’ rapid consumption of lingering King literature, prompted by the cyclopean success of Andy Muschietti’s It.

King’s 558-page sci-fi horror pivots on the residents of Haven, Maine, who fall under the influence of a peculiar object buried in the woods. Atomic Monster Productions’ founder, James Wan, is currently attached to produce but is said to be mulling over stepping behind the camera to direct, as well. Also producing are Roy Lee (The Lego Movie) and Larry Sanitsky, the latter having executive produced ABC’s 1993 miniseries based on the King novel in question.

King’s body of work has been picked clean as of late,

Ridley is also attached to direct the project, based on his six-issue monthly miniseries published in 2017 by DC Entertainment’s Vertigo label. Ridley wrote the story with illustrator George Jeanty in what was a sequel to their 2007 graphic novel “The American Way,” in which a team of 1960s superheroes were created and called the Civil Defense Corps. The story focuses on Jason Fisher’s the New American, a black man given super strength but a limited pain threshold while the rest of the corps is torn apart by racism and murder.

Ridley won the Academy Award for best adapted screenplay for “12 Years a Slave.” His other film credits include “Ben-Hur,” “Undercover Brother,” “U Turn,” “Three Kings,” “Red Tails,” and the Jimi Hendrix biopic

Here’s The Debut Trailer For ‘The First Purge’

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have unleashed the first trailer for The First Purge.

Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.

To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (Nffa) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

First Upgrade Trailer Teases What May Be One Of 2018’s Most Stylish Action Flicks

By now, there shouldn’t be a horror fan reading this who isn’t familiar with the work of Leigh Whannell. Having previously penned films such as Saw, Insidious and Dead Silence, the screenwriter/actor has proven himself to be quite the asset for studios looking for bold new intellectual properties.

So, as was the case with Insidious: Chapter 3, he’s writing and directing the upcoming science fiction/action flick Upgrade, which I must admit is taking me by surprise. As you can imagine, I naturally thought this to be a horror movie upon first hearing that Whannell was behind it, but I’m pleasantly pleased that the footage I’ve thus far seen has defied my expectations.

In short, the picture “centers on Grey Trace, a technophobe in a utopian near-future when computers control nearly everything – from cars to crime-surveillance – who’s paralyzed in a freak mugging. But when
