Storyline

The Last Mahout is a unique portal into the plight of the Asian Elephants; the film explores the tragic collisions of man and beast and speaks plainly about the steps necessary to save this remarkable animal. Elephants are vulnerable to all manner of threats and need large areas of forest in the wild. Habitat loss and fragmentation threatens them throughout their range. As habitat becomes fragmented elephants come into increasing, often fatal conflict with humans and agriculture. Written by David Adams

Elephants are no different to horses in the West
29 November 2017 | by belynda-zolottoSee all my reviews

A must watch if you want to take a deep look into the 5000+ year history of elephant culture and the relationship between Asian elephants and mahouts in Thailand. One can almost feel the love between man and beast through the screen. - An honest insight to this truly amazing relationship that the West does not comprehend. The work and research being done at the Royal Elephant Kraal Village is vital for a sustainable future of domestic elephants in Thailand.
