Kirsten, a 17 year old girl just before her 18th birthday, leaves for a village called Selmen. All the girls there kill themselves when they turn 18. Kirsten finds out that just before that, they all had problems getting into sleep. She also experience sleeping problems and tries to find out what is going on. Written by E.R.F. Knaap
Impressively directed and acted, with its astounding cinematography and production design work, memorable performances, an astonishing soundtrack and a nightmarish, absorbing atmosphere filled with really unique and original images not seen before, this uncanny witch tale succeeds in hypnotizing the viewer from start to finish. There are a number of stunning moments that convincingly demonstrate how thin the line between fairytale and horror actually is. Beautiful Eleanor Tomlinson, now deservedly on her way to big stardom, pulls us right into the story and her haunted mind. I was lucky enough to see the uncut, original English version during the American Film Market under its altered title THE VILLAGE and hope the movie will be finally released on DVD.
