While 2023 was a great year for original releases, that is not true for several major franchises, including the fifth installment in Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones series. After being in the Disney oven for a long while, the sequel to 2008’s The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull finally saw the light, which, for the first time in the franchise, didn’t see Steven Spielberg helming.
Led by James Mangold, Dial of Destiny had a huge challenge heading into the box office, following its humongous budget, and unfortunately, ended up becoming a huge financial disaster. But despite becoming a huge flop, it’s nowhere close to the biggest box-office flop in the last decade.

A car crash interview with a delusional prince, a new series adaptation featuring Patricia Highsmith’s most infamous creation, the second part of Zack Snyder’s pricey space opera and a paranormal detective show set within Neil Gaiman’s celebrated Sandman universe are among the big titles hitting Netflix in April.
Debuting April 4 is Ripley, Netflix’s glossy new take on Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Fresh from the critical acclaim he received for All of Us Strangers, Irish actor Andrew Scott will be inhabiting the role of Tom Ripley in an adaptation that will be screened in black-and-white. The eight-episode series also stars Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, and acting newcomer Eliot Sumner (son of Sting and Trudie Styler) as Freddie Miles. Written and directed by Oscar winner Steven Zaillian, Ripley was originally set for release on Showtime before it found a new home on Netflix.

Who Will Replace Jonathan Majors as Kang? Well, Marvel Studios plans to change the actor for Kang the Conqueror in the upcoming Avengers movie. They’re looking to replace Jonathan Majors due to some issues.
Kang was introduced as a significant villain after the Avengers defeated Thanos. Majors played different versions of Kang in Marvel shows and movies.
However, he faced legal trouble, and Marvel decided to remove him from the franchise. Despite this, the movie will still happen, although it might not keep the name “Kang Dynasty.”
There were talks of choosing a different villain like Doctor Doom, but they might simply find a new actor to play Kang. If you want more details about who might replace Jonathan Majors as Kang, keep reading this article until the end.

Regé-Jean Page stole our hearts as Simon Basset in Netflix's "Bridgerton." But he was making waves long before that. The 34-year-old actor burst onto our TV screens playing a hapless teacher in BBC One's "Waterloo Road." In fewer than 10 years, he's gone from the world of British television to Hollywood, earning a supporting role in Peter Jackson's adaptation of "Mortal Engines" as well quite a big role in the Emmy-nominated revival of "Roots," which was watched by a whopping 6.9 million American viewers.
Up next, Page is starring in the star-studded "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" movie alongside Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Hugh Grant. Of his role in the forthcoming action-comedy, Page told "Today" that "the hardest part about this movie was not cracking during the takes."

The "Ant-Man" movies have always been kind of an outlier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They tend to focus on everyday people reacting to larger-than-life comic book stories. After over a decade of Marvel movies, most of them have escalated to the point where their characters don't feel like just regular people with superpowers anymore, the way they do in the comics, but the "Ant-Man" movies always did. The supporting cast is comprised of regular citizens who are not related to the superhero life, so when the superheroic battles and mayhem arrives, it always felt dangerous and important.
That was until "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania," by far the biggest, weirdest movie in the trilogy, and one that trades fun wacky grounded characters like Michael Peña's Luis for a bunch of sci-fi creatures that look straight out of a "Rick and Morty" episode. This week Bloomberg reported a rumour that Disney is in discussions with the BBC to acquire streaming rights to a new series of Doctor Who. The rumour has spawned a lot of takes, despite the report itself pointing out that talks are in early stages and nothing is guaranteed.
Not a Disney Princess
Some have pointed to the ambiguity of the phrase “rights to a new Doctor Who series”, wondering if the deal concerns the next season starring Ncuti Gatwa as the 14th Doctor, or whether this is an as-yet unannounced spin-off spawned from new Bad Wolf Studios subsidiary WHONIVERSE1 Ltd, which was filed for earlier this year.
It’s more likely that this deal simply concerns international streaming rights for the show. Doctor Who will not be leaving its home on the BBC, and would air on BBC One as usual, but also stream internationally through Disney+. The report...

Although nuns are forbidden to perform exorcisms, a professor (Colin Salmon) recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante (Christian Navarro), Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl (who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago), and soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her….and it wants in.

Brian Petsos’ interminable “Big Gold Brick” may be — its endless parade of energy-less moments connected only by the lack of life shared between them, like a daisy chain of skeletons who are all holding hands — but the writer-director sincerely deserves credit for willing his feature debut into existence. That someone with just a handful of wacky shorts to his name was able to make a 132-minute brain fart about the cosmic connection between a suicidal writer (Emory Cohen), the good-natured weirdo (Andy Garcia) who hits him with his car on the highway one night, and the frozen custard that binds their fates together… well, let’s just say “‘Southland Tales’ meets the worst Sundance movie of 2002” is a tough sell these days, and that’s before you add a hostile statue of Santa Claus, a fully adult high school basketball player named Beans Washington, and a deus ex meteor into the mix.

If you thought the Minions were bad enough, allow me to reintroduce you to the unstoppable might of the "Trolls" franchise. At least the Minions were forever immortalized as ancient American gods in that one incredible scene in "Mortal Engines" a couple of years back. What can "Trolls" consider to be its claim to fame? Nothing major, just changing the entire landscape of moviegoing by becoming the first major film to skip theaters entirely during the pandemic and release solely on video-on-demand, setting off an entire chain of events that continued to reverberate months and months later. Well, that...

Endeavor Content has come on board as the global sales agent for “The Panthers,” a music-influenced social justice drama series from New Zealand.
It was Friday confirmed that the series will make its international premiere as an official selection at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival, as part of the Primetime program.
The six, hour-long episodes, based-on-a-true-story series covers a devastating and resonant period in New Zealand’s history through the dramatization of the founding of The Polynesian Panthers – a revolutionary social justice movement directly inspired by the Black Panther movement in the U.S.
The 1974-set narrative follows a young man who is the black sheep of his Tongan family who is frustrated by his community being stuck in a broken economic and criminal justice system. In the face of increasingly aggressive racial-profiling from the government and police force, he forms his own revolutionary movement The Polynesian Panthers, while also...

A $125 million studio movie about a human colony on a distant planet of retro-futuristic “McCabe & Mrs. Miller” cosplayers? Where every man’s internal monologue loudly emanates from his head like overlapping speaker feedback in a cloud of “Noise” so intense that you can see it take shape on screen (and where every woman was killed in a recent war with the indigenous species of humanoid monsters)? “Chaos Walking” could’ve and should’ve been the most arresting, unusual sci-fi blockbuster since “Cloud Atlas.” Or “Mortal Engines,” at the very least.

Regé-Jean Page has nabbed a leading role in the film adaptation of “Dungeons & Dragons,” Variety has confirmed.
The fantasy adventure will be Page’s follow-up to his breakout role in Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” on which he causes hearts to flutter, corsets to loosen and generally monopolizes the lusts and affections of a broad swath of Regency-era England as the Duke of Hastings, a slightly rakish, very rich and extremely eligible bachelor. The truth remains that whatever one talks about regarding the anime industry this year, the success of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie” overshadows everything in the category. However, the year was once more quite good for the industry, at least content-wise, with a number of titles that are bound to make an impact in the future coming to the fore. A number of new trends also appeared, with two titles that focus on the humanization of animals, a number of ones that presented a distinctly European setting, and a number of series that were original, not based on manga that is. Lastly, Masaaki Yuasa proved, once more, that he is on the very top of anime directors.

In another of this year’s original anime series (not based on a manga that is), the creators of “Deca-Dence” try to do something radically different with their title, combining a number of trademark elements with a rather complex and unusual main premise which also extends to the drawing and animation of the series.
In the latter part of the 2400s, air pollution reached lethal levels. As humanity hurtled toward extinction, they were also threatened by the emergence of life forms known as Gadoll, causing the extinction of 90% of the world’s population. Large corporations developed cyborgs to carry out human functions, but the cyborgs eventually began to outnumber humans and the Solid Quake Corporation acquired rights to manage humanity. The company created a giant dome on the Eurasian continent in which they installed a colossal entertainment facility called Deca-dence, with its own independent all-governing system to make all decisions.

“Eloise,” the beloved children’s book about a mischievous young girl who lives on the “tippy-top floor” of New York City’s famed Plaza Hotel, is being adapted into a live-action movie.
Linda Woolverton is writing the movie for MRC Films, the independent studio behind “Knives Out” and “Mortal Engines.” MRC recently acquired film, television and stage rights for the series of leisurely reads written by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight. Neither a director nor key cast members have been announced yet.

November is the last month of the year for sensible viewing, before our TV screens become full-time broadcasters of golden retrievers saving Christmas and Will Ferrell wearing tights. Take the opportunity then, to get some good stuff in before the festivities.
In terms of good stuff, Netflix is offering the second series of the brilliantly wry and surprisingly touching The End of the F***ing World for any UK viewers who didn’t catch it on Channel 4. There’s also the excellent animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (we loved it. 5 stars.) as well as Boots Riley’s inventive, funny, political satire Sorry to Bother You (we also loved it. 4.5 stars.) On top of that, you can take a nostalgic trip to Capeside with all six seasons of Dawson’s Creek or watch emotionally repressed royals deal with the advent of the 1980s in season four of The Crown.

On August 18, Ron Meyer was forced to resign his chairmanship at Universal Studios in the face of a sexual liaison come to light. However unwittingly, he is part of a cultural revolution in Hollywood, one that is seeing the new Hollywood order push aside the old. Expect more veterans to be put out to pasture, victims of their fat paychecks, limited viability, or in the cases of Meyer and respected Warner Bros. studio head Kevin Tsujihara, the lure of the same femme fatale.

Caren Pistorius in ‘Unhinged.’
Caren Pistorius was working part-time in a fabrics shop in Sydney last year when her Rgm agent suggested she audition for the lead female role opposite Russell Crowe in a US road rage thriller.
The South African-born, New Zealand-raised actress did a self-tape but felt it was too rushed and didn’t expect it to lead anywhere.
The following day her agent told her the producers wanted her to fly to New Orleans the next day to audition with Crowe.
“I turned up in that room after almost no sleep, feeling delirious,” she tells If on the line from New Zealand, where she is spending lockdown with her family. The next morning director Derrick Borte rang to tell her she’d won the role in Unhinged.

Jon Landau, producer of last year’s sci-fi blockbuster Alita: Battle Angel, recently took a jab at his own fanbase. In an Instagram post – seen below – the filmmaker wore a special T-shirt whose design implied that, if his followers helped check the spread of the coronavirus by washing their hands, he would reward them with the sequel they’ve begged for all this time.
Although Landau probably meant for the post to be understood as a joke instead of a genuine promise, there’s a solid chance that Alita’s story will eventually get a part two. Indeed, not only is the film incredibly open-ended, but its production – which was originally supposed to be headed by Avatar creator James Cameron – also ended up doubling its original $170 million investment.
Based on a Japanese manga of the same name, Alita: Battle Angel tells the story of a deadly warrior machine that doubles as a sentient teenage girl.
