Storyline

"Living the American Nightmare" is telling the story of all struggling artists who hit middle age before hitting it big. The main focus of this story of heartbreak & disillusionment is Myke Hideous, a singer/songwriter/artist from New Jersey who struggles to create despite numerous pitfalls in his career. Myke made his bones in the gothic rock band, the Empire Hideous. His project was littered with money trouble and line-up changes it's entire existence. The hight of Myke's career came when he was asked to join the reunited horror punk pioneers, the Misfits. Taking a position in the band many believed Myke conditioned for all his life, he lasted only a summer before he was unceremoniously fired. This film will give unique insight to what every performer goes through and gives up for the opportunity to perform for strangers. "Living the American Nightmare" gives a look at all the hard work that goes into alternative culture; with the purpose of expressing different styles, experiences,... Written by Anonymous

Decent, if the subject interests you

The interviews are well done and the film is put together nicely. But this is one of those documentaries that your enjoyment level is solely going to depend on how much you care about the subject.

Myke Hideous is the featured interviewee who recounts his time leading up to the Misfits and after. The picture he paints is rather one sided, and it would have been nice to have this a little more balanced. It's also notable, that this documentary features the last interview of Peter Steele of Type O Negative.

If you are/were a 90s metal-head, then go ahead and give this a watch. If you can find it.
