Trivia

There is a common misconception among fans that the game is supposed to be a prequel to the original The Transformers (1984) television show. This is false. Hasbro, the toy company behind Transformers stated the game is a prequel to the Transformers Prime (2010) TV show, although in an interview with voice actor Peter Cullen, he seemed to have denied this. Some say War for Cybertron is in-continuity with whatever Transformers universe any given person thinks. See more »

Excels on all fronts

"War for Cybertron", ideal for getting your Autobot and action game fix in the same place. This was a happy surprise for me, to say the least. For one thing, it's a lot of fun, and a great excuse to run around the machine world blasting stuff. Two, and here's the nice thing, it harks back to the '80s.

It makes me wish Michael Bay had gone for something like this for the live-action movies. It's got screaming guitar rock that seems appropriate for his stuff, but it's also got characters with personalities, bot designs that aren't eyesores, and the general feel that Transformers is supposed to have.

And I'm thankful for all of it.

8/10
