Psychic hillbillies, escaped convicts, courteous gravediggers, and even dead bodies continually show up on the doorstep of Clara Net, a grumpy old curmudgeon who craves nothing but solitude. Though this would be a dream situation for any detective, in HAGNET, the irreverent film noir spoof set in modern day, Clara reluctantly solves neighborhood mysteries even though she hates her neighbors. She can't move away because her ex-husband hid her 1.5 million dollar alimony settlement somewhere in the house before suffering from amnesia brought on by Clara herself. The feel of the series is like a Mel Brooks satire of a Humphrey Bogart movie. For instance in one scene millionaire Henry Palooza shows up at Clara's doorstep choking on a giant gem and dies. Instead of calling 911 or his wife to say I have terrible news, she returns Henry's corpse in a wheelbarrow she had previously borrowed from him. Constantly annoyed, always abrasive and totally politically incorrect, Clara deals with all the complications in her life by showing no respect for anything or anyone living or dead.
