The Last Stand was a good action movie from Schwarzenegger not his best movie or the greatest movie but it is a good for an action. So I call it essential Schwarzenegger action movie and no it is not so bad that is good it is so good that it is good. Arnold has returned into the leading man spot in the new film The Last Stand and bombed at the box office.
Schwarzenegger stars as Ray Owens, a former LAPD officer-turned-sheriff of a quiet border town who is called upon by the FBI to stop a drug lord and his cronies from fleeing across the U.S/Mexico border.
I know this is not Predator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Commando, The Terminator, The Running Man, Conan the Barbarian or Conan the Destroyer but The Last Stand is a good return to Arnolds roots. I like The Last Stand because it has a good pacing, it's violent, gory, very fun, damn good action, and Arnold shows that he's still an action movie star bad-ass! Also those were some really bloody squibs when the mercenary got shot up on the stairs.
The film stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Johnny Knoxville, Forest Whitaker, Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzmán, Eduardo Noriega, Peter Stormare, Rodrigo Santoro and they are believable.
When Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the western hemisphere, makes a deadly escape from an FBI prisoner convoy and plans to head straight to Mexico, right through the border town. He speeds with his fast car corvette and an FBI agent Ellen Richards (Genesis Rodriguez) as hostage to the Mexican border, border town known as Sommerton Junction. The only thing in his path is a Sheriff Ray Owens, a former LAPD narcotics officer and his inexperienced staff. At first, Sheriff Owens is highly reluctant to become involved. But when U.S. law enforcement counts him out, he rallies an unexpected team and takes matters into his own hands, ultimately setting the stage for a classic fight-to-the-death showdown.
Schwarzenegger easily gives one of the most committed performances I've ever seen from him as Owens, the central protagonist and biggest standout of this movie, by far. There's never really a single dull moment when Arnold is on screen. And for the most part, the same can be said for everyone else in the cast. Johnny Knoxville and Luis Guzmán, in particular, are absurdly hilarious as the movie's lowbrow comic relief. I know now what happened to Jaimie Alexander - Sif from Thor and Thor: The Dark World who plays now Sarah Torrance a deputy of Sheriff Ray Owens. Jaimie Alexander did a wonderful perfomence as Sarah.
I love the chase the street race between Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega) in his car 2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 C6 and Ray Owens (Arnold Schwarzenegger) with his car 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 chasing Cortez in the corn filed. I love that Sheriff and his staff armed them self's and preparing them for their last battle. The Last Stand was a violent decent action film at least it wasn't Sabotage that sucked so much.
