Netflix Picks Up Sci-Fi Series from Future Man Co-Creator

Chris Longo Nov 15, 2018

Are you ready to find The One? Netflix appears to be.

Netflix is quickly becoming a hub for science fiction. The streamer has ordered a new series from Future Man and Misfits creator Howard Overman titled The One.

The series is set in the near future where a DNA test can reveal a person’s perfect partner, and the implications of having the perfect match lead to some explosive decisions. The series is adapted from a 2017 novel by John Marrs, who has said in interviews that he sees the story as a relationship-focused one, rather than hard sci-fi. The novel follows five people who have unexpected matches.

The One received a 10-episode order and will be written by Overman, whose other TV writing credits include Merlin, Dirk Gently, and E4/Netflix’s Crazyhead.

Overman co-created the well-reviewed, Seth Rogen-produced sci-fi comedy Future Man, which streams on Hulu.

‘The One': Netflix Orders TV Adaptation of John Marrs Sci-Fi Novel About DNA and Dating

Netflix has ordered a TV adaptation of John Marrs’ sci-fi novel “The One” from Urban Myth Films.

Here’s the official logline for the 10-episode series: “The One” is set five minutes in the future, in a world where a DNA test can find your perfect partner – the one person you’re genetically predisposed to fall passionately in love with. No matter how good your relationship, which one of us can honestly say we haven’t thought about whether there is someone better out there? What if a hair sample is all it takes to find them? The idea is simple, but the implications are explosive. We will never think of love and relationships in the same way again.

The project hails from Urban Myth Films and StudioCanal, with “Misfits” alum Howard Overman as creator, writer and executive producers. Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy also executive produce for Urban Myth Films.

Netflix Finds ‘The One,’ a Sci-Fi Adaptation from Urban Myth Films

  • Variety
Netflix has greenlit “The One,” a sci-fi series set in a very near future in which a DNA test can match people with their perfect partner. Based on the eponymous John Marrs novel, the 10-part series will be produced by U.K.-based drama shingle Urban Myth Films and launch globally on Netflix.

Set five minutes in the future, the series follows events a decade after a scientific breakthrough has allowed people to use DNA testing to find their ideal partner. But even in perfectly matched couples partners have secrets and “The One” follows some that have shocking and deadly consequences, as well as the wider explosive implications of DNA-based pairings.

The series was created and written by Urban Myth’s Howard Overman (“Misfits”) and the producer’s Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy will exec produce. It is another big win for the scripted banner, which is in pre-production on

There's a New War Of The Worlds Film in Development and Greg Kinnear is Looking To Star

Greg Kinnear is in talks to star in a new film adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic sci-fi novel War of the Worlds.

The new film adaptation will was written by MisfitsHoward Overman, and it will be a reimagined telling of Wells’ alien invasion story that is set in the present day. So I guess it’s taking a page from Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the story.

This is said to be an ambitious project and would be one of the biggest gigs that Kinnear has landed in recent years. I always like Kinnear as an actor. He’s made some great films in his career and it would be good to see him land another great role in a project like this.

The film is being produced by Fox Networks Group Europe and it said to be very close to going into production.

BBC is also developing their

I hear that the actor, who was most recently in the sixth season of Netflix’s House of Cards, has been circling the script, which was written by MisfitsHoward Overman, but that a deal has not yet been struck.

Kinnear would be a big get for the ambitious project, which is Fox Networks Group Europe and Africa’s second original commission following Deep State, and is co-produced by France’s Canal+. It is produced by Urban Myth Films, Overman’s Studiocanal-backed indie that he runs with Johnny Caps and Julian Murphy.

10 Movies That Inspired The Misfits

10 Movies That Inspired The Misfits
The collision of punk rock and heavy metal with horror movies and sci-fi has resulted in some of the greatest bands of all time. Chief among them are The Misfits, who combined a fascination with b-movies, pre-code horror comics, and Famous Monsters of Filmland with aggressive but incessantly catchy punk rock into an iconic blend that influenced everyone from Metallica to Rob Zombie to Black Veil Brides. Here, we'll take a look at 10 movies that inspired the Misfits.

When the band formed in Lodi, New Jersey in the famous punk year of 1977, the moniker they chose was the name of a 1961 movie starring Marilyn Monroe, the screen princess who also inspired the first solo single from singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig, "Who Killed Marilyn?" The Misfits disintegrated in 1983, with Glenn moving on to the similarly legendary Samhain and Danzig. Original bassist Jerry Only revived the Misfits in 1995, with an abundance

DVD Review – Bad Samaritan (2018)

Bad Samaritan, 2018.

Directed by Dean Devlin.

Starring David Tennant, Robert Sheehan, Kerry Condon, Jacqueline Byers, Carlito Olivero, and Lisa Brenner.

Synopsis:

A pair of thieving valets get more than they bargained for when they come across a kidnapped girl in the home of one of their customers.

Bad Samaritan is a smart movie. Smart because in this day and age of technological advances quickly becoming cliché in movies – mobile phones with no signal, internet connections going down at a crucial moment, tiny video cameras catching important details, etc. – this movie revels in its tech and in doing so highlights how difficult it is to pen a modern thriller that can still thrill the old way but keep things credible with a more tech-savvy (i.e. younger) audience. As if to illustrate the point there is a scene in Bad Samaritan where the villain of the piece is trying to invade

‘Doctor Who’: Michelle Gomez Says Missy Could Come Back for an All-Female Face-Off

‘Doctor Who’: Michelle Gomez Says Missy Could Come Back for an All-Female Face-Off
Doctor Who” is introducing its first-ever female Doctor and brand-new companions on Sunday, but one familiar face could make a comeback. Actress Michelle Gomez hinted that her character Missy could return, even though she was last seen dying after being shot in the back.

“Absolutely, in this business, never say never,” Gomez said during an interview with IndieWire for her new Netflix series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” “Missy could come back, and there could be a little something head-to-head there. We’ll see.”

In the “Doctor Who” universe, the Master is a renegade Time Lord who became a chief antagonist of the Doctor. A Time Lord can regenerate into any person or gender, and the Master became the first to regenerate in a female form: Missy. In last season’s finale, the Master and Missy both existed at the same time due to “timey-wimey” reasons, and in the end, the

Bad Samaritan Review

  • HeyUGuys
Two petty thieves are thrust into a dangerous world a sadistic individual after they choose the wrong house to burgle in Bad Samaritan.

Directed by Dean Devlin and starring David Tennant and Robert Sheehan (Misfits), Bad Samaritan follows struggling photographer Sean (Sheehan) who, with his friend Derek, has turned to robbing people’s house whilst they are out dining by using their valet job as a front. But Sean makes the huge mistake of targeting the egotistical Cale Erendreich (Tennant) and gets more than he bargained for and must settle on a plan of action when he discovers that a girls life is on the line.

Even though Bad Samaritan follows a relatively straight forward cat-and-mouse plot that audiences have seen before, it exceeds expectations in its executions and central performances. Sheehan commits to giving a realistic take on a young man who is trying to make ends meet whilst

BBC Studios Rules Out Bid For ‘MasterChef’ & ‘Black Mirror’ Producer Endemol Shine

  • Deadline
BBC Studios has ruled out a bid for rival superindie Endemol Shine.

It is the second high-profile television conglomerate to rule out a bid for the MasterChef and Black Mirror producer after Fremantle owner Rtl revealed that it had “stepped out of the process”

Chief Executive Tim Davie, speaking at the Ibc technology conference in Amsterdam, said, “No we won’t [buy Endemol Shine] because we are very focused on premium British content. We’re suitable scaled in certain areas.”

Earlier this year, Endemol Shine owners Apollo Global and 21st Century Fox hired Deutsche Bank and Liontree to advise on a deal, which could value the Masterchef owner anywhere between $2B-$3B. Companies thought to be in the bidding process including ITV, All3Media co-owner Liberty Global and Vivendi-backed Banijay.

Davie said that BBC Studios, which produces series such as Planet Earth and Strictly Come Dancing and owns stakes in a raft of

Flashback: Danzig Play a Menacing ‘Mother’ on ‘The Jon Stewart Show’

Flashback: Danzig Play a Menacing ‘Mother’ on ‘The Jon Stewart Show’
In 1993, Danzig were still largely an underground phenomenon. Although they’d put out their self-titled debut LP in 1988, they were still best known as the heavy-metal follow-up band for the Misfits’ former singer. But that changed when a live version of “Mother,” from the Ep Thrall: Demonsweatlive, became a video hit, and the group started gaining wider exposure.

Around that time, the band made a menacing appearance on The Jon Stewart Show — the host’s MTV talk show before he went to The Daily Show — and Danzig, the band and the man,

Frightfest 2018: ‘Bad Samaritan’ Review: Dir. Dean Devlin (2018)

Bad Samaritan review: From the producer of most of Roland Emmerich’s disaster movies comes this horror/ thriller about a pair of burglars who stumble upon a woman being held captive in a home they intended to rob.

Bad Samaritan review by Luke Ryan Baldock.

Bad Samaritan review

Dean Devlin made his name producing the disaster and/or disastrous films of Roland Emmerich. With Independence Day and Godzilla under his belt, Devlin didn’t return for the likes of The Day After Tomorrow or 2012, suggesting he was leaving those big budget films behind. This made it all the more surprising when he entered the directorial ring himself with Geostorm, which was such delightful nonsense that it may have been satire. For his second cinematic feature, Devlin goes in the complete opposite direction for a sinister game of cat and mouse in a stripped back thriller.

Perhaps Devlin felt more comfortable

Marilyn Monroe Lost Nude Scene From ‘The Misfits’ Discovered

Marilyn Monroe Lost Nude Scene From ‘The Misfits’ Discovered
A nude scene long believed lost featuring Marilyn Monroe in John Huston’s The Misfits has been re-discovered. The footage, cut from the film by Huston, was previously believed to have been destroyed.

Author Charles Casillo made the discovery during the research for his book, Marilyn Monroe: The Private Life of a Public Icon, out via St. Martin’s Press on Tuesday.

Casillo interviewed Curtice Taylor, son of Misfits producer Frank Taylor, and learned that he has kept the footage in a locked cabinet since his father’s death in 1999.

In a love scene with Clark Gable, Monroe dropped the covering bed-sheet and exposed her body. It would have been one of the first – if not the first – nude scenes by an American actress in a major production in the sound era of film if it had made it into the final version.

Director John Huston refused to include the nude scene,

Glenn Danzig Is Bringing His Verotik Horror Comics to the Big Screen

Glenn Danzig Is Bringing His Verotik Horror Comics to the Big Screen
Misfits and Danzig front man Glenn Danzig has inked a deal to bring his Verotik horror comics to the big screen. Danzig will be working with Cleopatra Entertainment and will write, direct, and score the anthology-style set of films. The singer plans to tell the story of three individuals and their stories in his new set of movies. Danzig started the Verotik series back in 1994 after being an avid comic book collector throughout his life. The stories are usually sexual in nature and like his music, lean on a major horror element.

Glenn Danzig has been bringing horror to the masses ever since the late 1970s when he started the massively influential horror punk band The Misfits. However, Danzig had always wanted to write and put out his own comic books and considered himself to be a failed comic artist. Whatever he couldn't get out with comics, he put it
