The 10 Best Netflix Films of 2018

  • Variety
How much difference a year makes! Early last December, around the time critics’ groups do their annual awards voting, if you’d asked me to make a list of the 10 best Netflix original films of 2017, I could’ve named two contenders — Sundance winner “I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore” and Noah Baumbach pickup “The Meyerowitz Stories” — and that would’ve been the end of it.

As far as I could tell, two things were happening: Netflix was snapping up movies that no one else wanted (such as Noomi Rapace starrer “What Happened to Monday”) and offering extravagant

Exclusive Interview – Composer Christian Wibe talks WWE Studios’ The Marine 6: Close Quarters and Netflix’s What Happened to Monday

Composer Christian Wibe has lent his musical expertise to projects such as Dead Snow, Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead and Hellfjord to name a few. More recently he scored Netflix’s dystopian thriller set in the not-so-distant future, What Happened to Monday starring Noomi Rapace, Glenn Close and Willem Dafoe. The film follows a set of identical septuplets whom must avoid being put to a long sleep by the government and dangerous infighting while investigating the disappearance of one of their own, as families are limited to one child due to overpopulation. His distinctive electronic score for the project was a standout one for viewers/critics and what caused the filmmakers of The Marine 6: Close Quarters to reach out to him about scoring their film. With The Marine 6: Close Quarters being released November 13th by WWE Studios, we decided to speak with Christian about his work on this film,

Extinction review – splashy alien invasion thriller crash lands on Netflix

Universal offloaded this glossy sci-fi tale to the streaming platform and, despite a script from the writer of Arrival, it’s easy to see why

If we couldn’t safely presume Netflix is gathering data about our collective viewing habits to develop optimally profitable programming, the streaming site’s full-court press into science-fiction would seem a bit incongruous, or at least curious. In just the last year, Netflix has either produced or acquired Okja, Annihilation (for non-us audiences), Mute, The Titan, What Happened to Monday, Anon, How It Ends and The Cloverfield Paradox, and together those films have run the whole gamut from great to gratuitously bad.

One of Rabat's stars is Marwan Kenzari - an early performance in a career that now has him appearing opposite Tom Cruise in The Mummy, Noomi Rapace in What Happened To Monday, and Kenneth Branagh in Murder On The Orient Express, to say nothing of his starring role as Jafar in the upcoming live action...

John Wick Director Chad Stahelski Set To Helm The Supernatural Vigilante Film Sandman Slim

John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski has jumped on board another great sounding film project. It's called Sandman Slim and based on a nine-book supernatural fantasy series by Richard Kadrey. This sounds like a great project for Stahelski and there's no doubt it will end up being a crazy film.

The story centers on James 'Sandman Slim" Stark, a "fast-talking, hard-boiled, supernatural vigilante who escapes from Hell to avenge his girlfriend’s murder and hunt down the magicians responsible for getting him sent 'downtown.'"

The movie will be written by Kerry Williamson, who recently co-wrote the fantastic Netflix film, What Happened to Monday.

Before Stahelski jumps into the development of this project he will direct the third installment of Keanu Reeves' John Wick. I wasn't familiar with this book series until today but it sounds awesome! I think I'm going to have to start reading it. Here's the description
