Why not just watch the originals?!
'Hey Fellas' was a series of silent shorts back in the 1920s that obviously were meant to piggy-back off the success of Hal Roach's Little Rascals series. The films had many of the Roach trademarks-- a black character with a younger brother, a girl in love with one of the boys, the kids being chased by some authorities and the building of some contraption (in this case a fire engine). However, just having many of the same story elements wasn't enough--the Hey Fellas films were generally very tedious and not nearly as good as the originals.

This film begins with the boys playing baseball in an empty lot. One of their errant balls bothers some fun-hating guy and he sends the cops after them. There is a lot of chasing about...when, inexplicably, this plot is totally abandoned even though it made up half the film! Now the boys decide to build fire engines and create their own fire house (a VERY familiar theme for the Rascals). The film ends with them trying to put out a fire started by the girls.

Unfortunately, all the stuff that happens in this film isn't particularly funny. It's not terrible--it just isn't all that good. My only reason to recommend it is so you can compare it to the Rascals silent shorts in order to see just how good the Roach version was...otherwise, this is an easy one to skip.
