The shiny Chrome cars are Lotus Evora.
Shiloh Fernandez, Liam Hemsworth, Kit Harington, Jai Courtney and Wilson Bethel auditioned for the lead male role of Jared. Max Irons was later cast.
As the seekers wear completely white clothing throughout the film, including in the desert sequences, it was a tedious process for the costume designers and makeup artists to constantly clean the clothes whenever they became dirty, which was often.
Ian Somerhalder, Dane DeHaan, Thomas McDonell and Augustus Prew auditioned for the role of Ian. Jake Abel was later cast.
Saoirse Ronan patterned her voice as Wanderer after Jane Fonda.
Jake Abel previously auditioned for the role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga, another series based on literature by Stephanie Meyer, but did not get the part.
Eva Green, Hayley Atwell and Claire Danes turned down the role of The Seeker.
Dianna Agron auditioned for the role of Melanie Stryder.
Stephanie Meyer is a fan of the films Gattaca (1997) and The Truman Show (1998). Andrew Niccol, who was involved with those films, would go on to direct this film adapted from her novel.
Although at first reported as such, this was actually not the last movie Roger Ebert reviewed before his death. As reported by Jim Emerson, the last review Ebert wrote was for Terrence Malick's film To the Wonder (2012). However, the review for The Host (2013) was the last review that was published before his death.
Melanie's last name, Stryder, is Dutch for "warrior."
Jake Abel and Saoirse Ronan previously starred together in The Lovely Bones (2009), but instead of being love interests, he plays her character's best friend's boyfriend.
The advert featured the song "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons.
Shiloh Fernandez had originally auditioned for Jared before Max Irons was cast. Ironically enough, both had previously collaborated in the film Red Riding Hood (2011), which was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who also helmed Twilight (2008), a film based on another Stephanie Meyer novel. Shiloh Fernandez had also auditioned for Edward Cullen in that film before Robert Pattinson was cast.

The trivia items below may give away important plot points.

When Melanie jumps through the window to escape the seekers at the beginning of the movie, she is seen falling several stories and creating a crater in the cement pavement. At the very beginning of the end credits, the camera pulls away from a planet and it is the exact crater shape as the one Melanie made when she fell.
Emily Browning, who portrays Wanda's new body in this film, was Stephenie Meyer's original choice for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight (2008), but Browning turned down that role.
Emily Browning, who plays Wanderer's new host, ironically dated Max Irons from 2011 to 2012, who plays Saoirse Ronan's onscreen love interest. Ronan also portrayed the same character of Wanderer.
