Did You Know?

In the comics, the Dark Archer is the Green Arrow's archenemy. He was born Arthur King, and his alias is Malcolm Merlyn. He was a business man who owned the Merlyn Global Group, and he was a friend of the Queen Family. However, when his wife was killed by an unknown assailant, it destroyed his faith in humanity. He joined the League of Assassins, led by Ra's al Ghul, and ultimately became the Dark Archer. Vortigen is Smallville's incarnation of the same character. See more »

Directly after this, Vortigan is shown still having his bow drawn with his left arm pointing outwards, he then lowers his bow, to show the arrow in his left shoulder. From his previous position, Oliver's shot would have been impossible. See more »

Zod: When we bowed down before you, Kal-El, we embraced you with open hearts. Well some of us feel as is if our favor has not been returned.
Clark Kent: Your people...
Zod: *Our* people.
Clark Kent: *Our* people have assimilated well. They don't need my help as much as the humans.
Zod: No, we need it *more*. We have no powers here, Kal-El. And they expect you to help us get them. We need leadership, a mentor.
Clark Kent: I can't help you. I don't know how to give our people my powers.
Zod: Surely it's a mystery we can solve together.
Clark Kent: Earth is not ...

If anyone wants to know what a Green Arrow spin off would be like, this is pretty much it. Mia (aka Speedy for anyone familiar with the comics) returns. Her character was handled much better this time than when she was first introduced earlier in the season. Her original appearance was awkward and out of place. Seeing as this is a Green Arrow episode, it was easier to accept her. I liked that the producers brought in a character from Green Arrow's history, since they dropped the ball with Black Canary. It's just too bad they never followed through. Mia/Speedy had a lot more potential than the two episodes she appeared in. I also liked that the villain of the week had a physical appearance very similar to the comic book version of Green Arrow.

This was a good episode, but the only problem is that it plays out like a back door pilot for a Green Arrow spin off. Clark, Chloe, Lois and Zod's presence in this episode are very out of place.
