Unfortunately, The Reawakening borders on propaganda. This short film produced by the Ford Motor Company does not adequately portray the struggles that injured soldiers with PTSD go through when returning from war. This attitude was typical of the era, as leaders and society often trivialized the costs of war. For instance, the film suggests that the war wounds can be healed through physiotherapy. The physiotherapy shown are a few soldiers getting their hands rubbed by a nurse. This theme continues throughout the short, as activities such as basket weaving are promoted as solutions to the physical and mental injuries of war. The reason I gave this documentary a 4/10 instead of a 2/10 is due to the fact that the film is well-preserved (it is over a century old) and that still provides some insight into the lives of returning World War I soldiers.
