Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Casual drinking and occasional smoking occurs in the series. Major characters take to selling drugs --Oxycontin (referred to as "hillbilly heroin"). Some characters implied use drugs casually.
  • There are scenes of drug use in Season 4, most of which consist of characters snorting powdery substances. The film on the whole, does not glamourize or encourage drug use.
  • A more well-presented character from Season 5 and a villain from Season 6 (who is portrayed as a very competent tycoon) engage in casual marijuana use. A young teenage girl is shown to be an expert in growing marijuana - mentioned on occasion throughout the series.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The series is quite accessible to a wide audience, even somewhat comical at times.

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A moment where a man's leg is amputated (off screen). However, we do see the stump later, as characters hoist it up and prod it while deliberating how to stop the bleeding. (One threatens to cauterize it with a blowtorch, but is stopped before this transpires.) One episode sports a brawl where a few characters are bludgeoned to death (out of frame). A fistfight transpires, ending with a character stabbed in the leg through a major artery--blood.
  • A moment where a man is chopped up off-screen with a chainsaw. Nothing is seen. Another man is blown up quite suddenly by a hidden explosive, the wound is too charred to see much detail, and the rest of his body remains intact (but quite dead).
