A new English adaptation of the classic French tragedy Phèdre by Jean Racine (1639-1699). It retells the ancient Greek tale of the wife of the Atenian King Theseus, who conceived a forbidden love for his son (by an earlier wife) Hyppolytus. All ends badly for all.

This is a stage production of a play, filmed and broadcast live to over 70 cinemas across the UK on 25th June 2009. The production was subsequently screened 'as live' in over 280 cinemas across the world as part of the National Theatre's NT Live project, which will see many of their London stage productions broadcast live in cinemas.
