Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was one of the standout characters from the Fox X-Men universe, and Deadpool & Wolverine is bringing the hero back to life. Jackman played the mysterious mutant from X-Men (2000) to Logan (2017) and seemingly retired after Wolverine's $600 million finale. He starred in multiple other X-Men movies, including Days of Future Past (2014), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), and The Wolverine (2013).
After Jackman's retirement, it seemed his version of Wolverine would never reappear. Fox's X-Men universe was swiftly ended after Disney purchased 21st Century Fox. With the Fox properties now in control of Marvel Studios, however, the Deadpool franchise could continue where Deadpool 2 (2018) left off. Surprisingly, Jackman's Wolverine will be joining Deadpool on the coming adventure, but his involvement is baffling,...

The Greatest Showman's soundtrack eclipses the film itself, gaining popularity through high-profile covers and TikTok. Tightrope is an emotional ballad sung by Michelle Williams, setting up Barnum's fall and redemption in the film. Come Alive brings life to the circus with its energy, showcasing the misfit troupe's talents and the excitement of Barnum's venture.
The Greatest Showman songs remain iconic since its release in 2017. The Greatest Showman sees Hugh Jackman star as entrepreneur P.T. Barnum, and he excels, leading an impressive supporting cast that features the likes of Zendaya, Zac Efron, and Michelle Williams. Box office success isn't always determined by the opening weekend, as films can gain traction over time internationally. Movies like 'Avatar: The Way of the Water' capitalize on wide appeal for blockbuster success compared to standalone films. Films like 'Birdman' can overcome slow starts at the box office with critical acclaim and award nominations.
Box office numbers for a movie's opening weekend can often indicate how successful the theatrical release will be, but films can bounce back from poor openings, going on to make millions. These types of films are referred to as having "legs," meaning that public interest and awareness of the movie grows over time. For smaller releases or films with unknown actors and filmmakers, they often rely on the legs, hoping that the quality of the content will spread through word-of-mouth and media exposure.

The Greatest Showman's ending wraps up P.T. Barnum's story with themes of success, family, and redemption in a satisfying way. The movie creates a polished Hollywood version of Barnum's life, overlooking some darker and unresolved aspects of his true story. Barnum's journey from circus owner to burnt-out businessman is dramatized for entertainment, with a focus on themes of prejudice and acceptance.
The Greatest Showman's ending was a grand spectacle, just like the rest of the hit 2017 movie, and many viewers wonder how the story of P.T. Barnum continued in real life. The story begins with Barnum (Hugh Jackman) as the young son of a tailor, dreaming of a successful life in the circus. Eventually, Barnum marries his first love, the upper-class Charity, and starts a family in a run-down apartment in New York. After losing his dull office job, Barnum decides to chase his circus dream and...

Hugh Jackman's talent in action, comedy, and musicals make him a perfect fit for the role of Popeye in the upcoming live-action movie. Jon Hamm's comedic and dramatic abilities could allow him to skillfully portray the heartfelt and humorous sides of Popeye. Terry Crews, with his muscular physique and charismatic persona, has the heart and muscles needed to pull off the role of Popeye convincingly.
With an upcoming live-action Popeye movie in the works, there are plenty of Hollywood actors who could step into Robin Williams’ shoes and portray the strong-armed, spinach-eating sailor man. Originally based on a comic character created in 1929, Robert Altman’s 1980 Popeye movie starred Williams’ as Popeye, and Shelley Duval as a perfectly cast Olive Oly, in a film that received negative reviews upon release but has since gained a cult following and retrospective appreciation. New to Prime Video on March 7, 2024, Ricky Stanicky is a throwback R-rated buddy comedy by director Peter Farrelly. The story involves a trio of friends who pull a childhood prank that backfires, prompting them to blame an imaginary culprit named Ricky Stanicky. Years later, the friends continue to use the made-up alias to avoid workplace trouble and cover up their sophomoric shenanigans.
Although Ricky Stanicky has drawn mediocre reviews for its crude raunchiness and overlong running time, the old-school buddy comedy boasts a tremendous cast of recognizable actors that elevates the material. For those wondering if the movie is worth a watch, perhaps the superb cast of characters will sway a decision one way or the other. As such, it's time to meet the characters featured in Ricky Stanicky.

Anyone But You proved Will Gluck wrong, becoming a surprise hit with $212 million worldwide despite a slow $6 million opening. Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney's on-screen chemistry in the film captivated audiences and led to word-of-mouth success. The film's viral TikTok videos contributed to its box office success, challenging the belief that younger audiences only support romantic comedies on streaming platforms.
Just before the romantic comedy film Anyone But You was released theatrically on the 2023 Christmas box-office weekend, co-writer and director Will Gluck jokingly predicted that Anyone But You would be the last romantic comedy to be released by a major studio. Gluck’s sarcastic prediction seemed to be proven correct in the film’s opening weekend, where the film grossed an unspectacular $6 million in its first three days of domestic release. The $6 million opening seemed especially underwhelming since Anyone But You, which carried a relatively modest production cost of $25 million,...

Hot off the heels of ‘Dune: Part Two’ success, Ferguson is set to team up with Chris Pratt in a new thriller titled ‘Mercy.’ This Amazon MGM Studios production promises to be a gripping sci-fi tale set in a future where crime rates have skyrocketed.
In ‘Mercy,’ Pratt plays a detective caught up in a whirlwind of accusations over a violent crime. The challenge? He must clear his name. The storyline teases a suspense-filled journey, something we’re all looking forward to. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov, known for the 2016 remake of ‘Ben-Hur,’ and penned by Marco van Belle, the project has a mixed team behind it (‘Ben-Hur’ was pretty bad). Still, with Charles Roven, a name recently nominated for an Oscar for ‘Oppenheimer,’ leading the production, expectations are high.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona star Rebecca Hall was one of the buzziest names to feature on the BBC’s recent 12-strong drama slate and the BAFTA winner can now be seen in first look images playing a teacher in Element Pictures’ The Listeners.
Adapted by the novel’s author Jordan Tannahill, Hall’s character Claire is tormented by a low humming sound that no one else around her can hear. This seemingly innocuous noise gradually upsets the balance of her life, increasing tension between herself and her husband, Paul, and daughter, Ashley. But despite multiple doctors, no obvious source or medical cause can be found.
Scroll down for more pics, including another of Hall and one of Ollie West (Hamnet), who plays student Kyle and can also hear the sound.
Also starring in the series, which was filmed in Greater Manchester, are Prasanna Puwanarajah, Amr Waked (Ramy), Gayle Rankin, Mia Tharia (Phoenix Rise), Franc Ashman, Samuel Edward Cook, Karen Henthorn, Lucy Sheen (Ping Pong) and Ian Mercer.
Deadline revealed the show’s development last March and Poor Things producer Element is making it with Janicza Bravo – whose past credits include Zola, Mrs America and Them – directing. Hall is also starring in James L. Brooks’ next movie Ella McCay and Tessa Thompson’s similarly-named helpline drama The Listener. Fremantle is distributing The Listeners.
Rebecca Dundon, SVP Scripted Content, International at Fremantle said: “The Listeners is a thriller like no other that will surprise, provoke and challenge the status quo.”

Dune: Part Two star Rebecca Ferguson recently revealed that she was screamed at on the set of a film early in her career by a huge star. The actress mentioned that she later told the star to “F off” after the altercation and refused to work with them, which drew flack from the producers as the other actor was ‘Call Sheet No.1’.
While Ferguson did not reveal who the screamer was, the Internet has gone with speculations. The actress assured that it was neither Tom Cruise nor Hugh Jackman while Dwayne Johnson, her Hercules co-star seemingly cleared his name. A recent clip with Star Wars star Ewan McGregor showed Ferguson being extremely comfortable with the actor, clearing his name too.

The Robbie Williams biopic Better Man now has an official release date from Paramount Pictures. The movie will have a limited release on December 25, 2024 before expanding on January 17, 2025. Paramount is polishing its crystal ball today and looking ahead at some of the films from the studio in the next few years. At least, that’s how it feels when Paramount earnings day comes along. The studio announced a 0.6% increase in stock today, with various release date announcements to whet investor’s whistles. Among the titles mentioned during today’s report, Paramount put dates on projects like Liam Neeson’s Naked Gun reboot, a sequel to 2023’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and more.
The Naked Gun reboot pratfalls into theaters on July 18, 2025, with Liam Neeson starring in the comedic role made famous by the late Leslie Neilsen. Akiva Schaffer directs, and executive produces the Naked Gun reboot, with Dan Gregor and Doug Man writing the script draft alongside Schaffer. One of the reasons this is exciting is that the trio partnered for the way-better-than-anticipated Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers film.

Exclusive: Buoyed by the overperformance of music-driven films Bob Marley: One Love and Mean Girls, Paramount Pictures has slotted Better Man for an exclusive qualifying release on December 25, followed by a wide theatrical release on January 17 in the heat of awards season. The film is an original musical by The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey, based on the life and music of singer Robbie Williams.
Paramount earlier this month made a $25 million commitment for North American rights to the film, one of the largest indie film rights deals in years. The studio believes it has a winner — it leaned into Bob Marley and the film has so far grossed north of $123M worldwide on a $70 million budget. The challenge on Better Man will come in the marketing: North America is about the only place on the planet where Williams is not a megastar singer, even though he spends most of his time in the U.

Rebecca Ferguson has got Dwayne Johnson in her corner in a grudge match with a former co-star.
Ferguson revealed on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast that she had confronted an unnamed fellow actor after they had “screamed” abuse at her on the set of a film.
Her comments have sparked speculation about the identity of the individual. The person’s gender was not confirmed by Ferguson, who is currently starring in Dune: Part Two.
Ferguson has ruled out Hugh Jackman or Tom Cruise, who she starred alongside in The Greatest Showman and Mission Impossible respectively.
Johnson has also appeared to rule himself out of the online chatter by posting his support for Ferguson after the pair worked together on 2014’s Hercules.
“Hate seeing this but love seeing her stand up to bullshit,” The Rock wrote on Twitter, now X. “Rebecca was my guardian angel sent from heaven on our set.

One of the most acclaimed movies of 2023 is coming home: A24 has announced that "The Iron Claw" will be available on Blu-ray and DVD next month. But for those who aren't committed to picking up a physical copy of the film, it is also available to rent on VOD from a variety of digital retailers right now. So there are plenty of options, with even more on the way in the coming months (we'll get to that in a moment).
A24's wrestling drama about the Von Erichs "The Iron Claw" (read /Film's review here) is currently available to rent from retailers such as Apple TV+, Google Play, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube, among others. It is priced at $19.99 for a 48-hour rental, which is the standard premium VOD price that studios began running with a few years ago. That price typically drops several weeks after the initial Digital release date.

Academy Award-winning visionary filmmaker Kevin Costner directs New Line Cinema’s vast “Horizon: An American Saga” Chapters One and Two, a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. A story of America too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-writes with Jon Baird (“The Explorers Guild”) and produces through his Territory Pictures.
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, “Horizon: An American Saga” explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s films will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

Anyone but You is certainly a sleeper hit. Released towards the end of the holiday season, the movie looked like it would be crushed at the box office by high-profile films like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, family films like Migration and Wonka, and big awards push films like The Iron Claw and The Color Purple. Anyone but You opened on December 22, 2023, and over its opening weekend, grossed a minor $6.3 million and was number 4 at the box office. It seemed dead on arrival.
Yet something funny happened. Like The Greatest Showman back in December 2017, the film held incredibly well in the following weeks thanks to positive word of mouth and little competition in the month of January, allowing audiences to check who might have been too busy during Christmas. Life lessons and relatable stories shine through dialogue and song lyrics in The Greatest Showman. P.T. Barnum's evolution from a driven showman to a family-focused man is a central theme of the film. Embrace your uniqueness, defy society's expectations, and find happiness in your own way, as portrayed in the movie.
The Greatest Showman took the world by surprise upon its release by being a musical with incredible set pieces and a story that was instantly relatable despite the period setting. The film made over $400 million worldwide, and there was more to it than just Hugh Jackman’s star power. The story is a fictional account of P.T. Barnum's (Jackman) desire to put together a show bringing outsiders into the spotlight. Becoming the "greatest showman" becomes an all-consuming drive for him.

Orion and the Dark is the latest Charlie Kaufman movie, and it pushes the ingenious screenwriter and director outside his comfort zone. While it's not the first animated movie created by Kaufman, it's the first time he experimented with a family-oriented approach, differing from his previous mind-boggling creations centered around existential matters, fame, and adulthood.
What's so great about Kaufman is how his movies resonate with audiences in drastically different ways: by altering one's perception of reality, he isolates viewers in their own particular universes. The relatability of Kaufman's works is brilliant, but his filmography is highly divisive: what perfectly works for some audiences might not appease everyone's taste. In that sense, his movies are ranked according to the originality of Kaufman's ideas rather than the overall reception of both critics and the public audience.

The international box office was generally muted this weekend, save for in China which ushered in the Year of the Dragon on Saturday, and with it the lucrative Chinese New Year moviegoing period. According to early figures from Maoyan, the first two days of Spring Festival 2024 amassed Rmb 2.44B ($339M), just a touch below the comparable days in 2023.
Although Maoyan’s Pegasus 2 was tops on Saturday, the first day of the holiday, ultimately it was the Jia Ling Cfg/Alibaba inspirational film Yolo that won the weekend with an estimated Rmb 804M ($112M/comScore has it slightly lower at $110.4M) across the two-day stretch. IMAX accounted for $3.6M of that. It often happens that the day-one winner is overtaken on day two.

Musicals like The Greatest Showman and La La Land offer visually stunning and relatable stories that even non-musical fans can enjoy. Movies like Hairspray and West Side Story weave music seamlessly into their plots, grounding the story in realistic themes of racial segregation and urban conflicts. Films like Sweeney Todd and Little Shop of Horrors combine elements of horror and dark comedy with catchy rock soundtracks, appealing to audiences who want musicals with a bit of an edge.
Some people are quick to reject the idea of movie musicals, but there are a few within the genre that are enjoyable for everyone and should be given a chance. The reasons for disliking musicals vary from person to person. Some common complaints are how unrealistic or jarring the break into a song can be or how the show-tune genre often associated with musicals can be overwhelming. However, whether they're adapted from...

Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has stepped up for a $25 million commitment for North American theatrical rights to Better Man, a fantastical original musical directed by Michael Gracey, helmer of the blockbuster musical The Greatest Showman. The film is about the unlikely rise of celebrated singer-songwriter Robbie Williams.
The deal marks the year’s biggest North American deal for an independent film in years, and Paramount is going to give it a full theatrical release, eyeing later this year. Studio is coming off the success of Mean Girls, which led the box office last month and grossed $92 million worldwide so far. It also is aggressively rolling out globally Bob Marley: One Love, a film that bows February 14, as Paramount leans into films in the musical space.
Rolling out Better Man late in the year gives the studio plenty of time to address a challenge in the U.S. and Canada for the conundrum that is Robbie Williams.
