The League

Whatever Happened To The Cast Of The League?
Image
Created by Jeff & Jackie Schaffer, one of FX's most popular comedy series was "The League," which ran for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. The raucous sitcom follows a group of friends in Chicago who run a highly competitive fantasy football league every year, creating their own challenges, rewards, and penalties. Along the way, the ensemble endures their own hilarious highs and lows involving romance and family life in between planning their fantasy teams. Throughout the show's run, the group is joined by several memorable guest stars and recurring characters, including the occasional real-life football player getting in on the fun.

Led by a solid ensemble cast of talented comedians, "The League" introduced beloved, crass characters framed against the backdrop of fantasy sports. Since the show's ending in 2015, many of the cast members have gone on to continue their film and television careers, while others haven't reached the same level of success.

‘This Is Us’ Creator Dan Fogelman’s Plans For NFL Drama Series
Image
It’s no secret that football is the most popular sport in the United States. In fact, football games, both college and professional, oftentimes take up roughly 90% of the 100 most-watched events in America every year. One of the main reasons folks love football is the simple fact that there are so few games. This creates more anticipation. Unlike other sports like baseball, basketball, and hockey, football seasons are only 17 games. The playoffs include a maximum of four extra games, which means the most any team can play in one year is 21 times. Up until now, there hasn’t been a drama series that surrounds the NFL. There have only been camera crews that follow teams around. All of that is likely changing in the near future, though.

Dan Fogelman’s NFL Series Has Been Given The Okay

Over the years, Dan Fogelman has become a household name in the entertainment industry.

Rob Lowe’s ‘The Floor’ Gets Branded ‘Dumbest Game Show Ever’ (Video)
Image
The Rob Lowe-hosted game show The Floor is getting low marks from actor and comedian Paul Scheer, who’s labeled it the “dumbest game show ever” in a new video. The League star, who has most certainly professionally overlapped with the actor-turned-host, dedicated an entire TikTok video on Wednesday, October 9, to ripping apart the Fox series, splicing himself under a clip from a recent episode. “This is the dumbest game show I’ve ever seen,” Scheer began. @paulscheer #TheFloor with #RobLowe might be the #dumbest #gameshow of all time… do you think you’d #win ♬ original sound – Paul Scheer The clip cut to the show’s signature round called Quiz Duel in which two players see who can identify more people, places, or things of a particular category from full-scale photos behind them. Twisters Just Set An Impressive (And Specific) Box Office Record
Image
The hot streak at the summer box office remains alive and well as director Lee Isaac Chung's "Twisters" did much, much better on opening weekend than anyone expected it to. The standalone sequel to the classic 1996 summer blockbuster "Twister" had been expected to open in the $50 million range based on early tracking numbers. Some analysts, however, had predicted that the disaster flick would open much higher. That proved to be true, so much so that Chung's crowd-pleaser has found its way into the record books with the biggest opening weekend ever for a disaster movie in the U.S.

Universal Pictures' "Twisters" took in an estimated $80.5 million domestically, easily topping the charts this past weekend. With that, it breaks a very specific record held by Roland Emmerich's "The Day After Tomorrow," which hit theaters 20 years ago in 2004. That film opened to $68.7 million domestically and, ever since, that...

Twisters Looks To Be An Old School Blockbuster At The Box Office (And For Audiences)
Image
The summer box office has rebounded in recent weeks thanks to the blockbuster success of animated movies like "Despicable Me 4" and Pixar's "Inside Out 2," which is already one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. We also had a blockbuster horror breakout in the form of "A Quiet Place: Day One." But has the time come for an old-school blockbuster to become a theatrical hit? If the early numbers are any indication, it appears as though "Twisters" will indeed keep the hot streak alive as the disaster flick figures to get off to a promising start.

"Twisters" is currently eyeing an opening weekend between $40 and $55 million domestically when it arrives next weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter. That said, tracking from other outlets suggests that is a modest number even on the high end. Box Office Theory has the film taking in anywhere between $71 and $83 million in its debut.

‘The Floodgates Opened’: How Paul Scheer Confronted Childhood Trauma in His New Memoir
Image
If it’s true that comedy equals tragedy plus time, Paul Scheer has a serious advantage. While audiences may recognize him as the earnestly delusional Andre from The League or as the satirical action star of Ntsf:sd:suv::, Scheer’s past isn’t as funny as his work — as evidenced by his new memoir, Joyful Recollections of Trauma. In the book, the actor, comedian, podcaster, and writer/director uncovers a layer of darkness he’s previously only hinted at, reflecting on his childhood, including abuse from his stepfather, and his longtime obsession with Hollywood.

Hapless Series Review: Hilarious British Comedy Meant to Test Boundaries
Image
As comedy has shifted the bounds of acceptable content, some shows continue to push the line between problematic and funny. Unlike some comedians insist, good comedy series like It’s Always Sunny in Philadephia push the boundary of what is allowed on television. Hapless, a new series streaming on Peacock, looks to bring the same energy from a crew of British comedians. It approaches its comedy with traditional sitcom approaches, but unlike many shows, it lets the humor spiral out of control. Most importantly, it gives its stars the material to milk the most laughs possible out of the punchlines. The show is very funny, even if it occasionally feels too similar to the Curb Your Enthusiasm or The League.

Hapless Plot

Hapless follows Paul Green (Tim Downie), a British journalist completing stories for The Jewish Enquirer. As Paul investigates various stories, he comes into contact with different aspects of Jewish and secular British culture.

Jerry Seinfeld Says ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Finale Cameo Elevated ‘Seinfeld’ Conclusion: “We’re in the Conversation Now”
Image
Jerry Seinfeld was delighted to join his friend Larry David for Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s finale, the comedian said this week, adding that the series’ Seinfeld tie-in helped elevate his own show’s conclusion.

“I think connecting the two finales [was the way to go],” Seinfeld told Vanity Fair. When Curb Your Enthusiasm concluded earlier this month, its series finale mirrored many of the details from Seinfeld‘s 1998 finale, with both shows featuring their main characters on trial for breaking a recondite local law. Seinfeld‘s final episode was written by David, and Seinfeld returned to play himself for the final installment of Curb.

Seinfeld said this week he told David yes right away upon being approached with the idea. “That just seemed like nothing but fun,” he said. “And I just love hanging out with Larry. We always just laugh all day long.”

Plus, Seinfeld said he felt the connection between their two shows strengthened the finale of Seinfeld,...

Rumors: Writer Has Been Found for Animated R-Rated Venom Project
Image
Despite some of the Ssu movies getting mixed or negative reviews (like Morbius), the Ssu keeps going and now has many live-action and animated projects in the works, focusing on Spider-Man’s side characters and villains. ‘Madame Web’ came out on February 14th and didn’t do well, with Dakota Johnson criticizing its development publicly.

Upcoming releases include ‘Kraven the Hunter’ on August 30th, 2024, and ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ which changed its release date to October 25th instead of November 3rd. ‘Venom’ is the most successful franchise in the Ssu, so it’s not surprising that there are reports of Feige wanting to bring him into the MCU.

Even though “The Last Dance” marks the conclusion of Venom’s current story, it doesn’t signal the end of Venom-related projects. Recently, there have been discussions about an animated R-rated Venom project in the works. Now, a prominent source, CanWeGetSomeToast, has...

Something Wicked: June Diane Raphael to star in Bewitched-inspired comedy series
Image
Last month, it was announced that writer/producer Judalina Neira is developing a TV series reimagining of the classic sitcom Bewitched for Sony Pictures Television, aiming to turn it into an “irreverent hourlong” show. NBC clearly likes the idea of reviving Bewitched, because now Deadline has broken the news that the network has their own “Bewitched-inspired” show called Something Wicked in the works, and this one already has a star attached: June Diane Raphael, who may be best known for playing the character Brianna Hanson for the 94 episodes that make up the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, which ran for seven seasons.

Raphael is also writing and executive producing Something Wicked with Dickinson creator Alena Smith. A multi-camera comedy, the show is described as having a Bewitched-type premise and will also serve as an homage to TV sitcom classics. It examines the condition of modern adult womanhood and how even with witchcraft,...

Tru Calling Cast: Where Are They Now?
Tru Calling (2003)
Tru Calling arrived on the small screen at a pivotal time for fans of genre fare in 2003.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer had just ended, so there was a desire from networks to get its most recognizable cast on new projects.

Eliza Dushku could have continued playing Buffy's onetime adversary in a planned spinoff, but instead of choosing the predictable, the actress opted to take a hard left turn to steer her career in a different direction.

The series starred Dushku as Tru Davies, a young woman who takes a job at a morgue when her internship falls through.

That allowed Tru to relive the day to find out what happened to them and to try to change the events.

It was a compelling hook,...
