Largely the problem with a lot of Troma movies and later day Corman movies is that if you aren't a boy between the age of 8 and 16, they can be mostly an exercise in tiresome ridiculousness. Within that age group they can be perfectly entertaining but try watching them half way through middle age and you're in for the equivalent fun as receiving a lap dance from nonagerian. Over acting, lo brow humor, etc etc. 2/10, add four stars if you're 10 years old.
This movie is just hilarious. The actors are over the top, but perfectly so; the plot keeps taking strange twists that somehow make perfect sense at the time so you never feel "stranded"; and the special effects are incredibly well done, when they're not being deliberately silly. I watched this with my kids, and they were laughing as much as I was. While I don't know if you can really call it a "family" movie, it is definitely one of the funniest things I've seen in years. The production is as good as many "real" movies, and you can tell they took the time to actually write a good movie, rehearse, and think things through. Give it a watch -- you won't be disappointed.
I consider myself lucky enough to have gotten a copy of "Slimed" in the mail a few months back, sent to me by my good friend, director Jeff Nitzberg. But before I talk about my viewing experience, allow me to preface...
I was in love once. It was a long time ago. Christ... it feels like centuries... I had been in darkness. Just the most corrupt of complete nothingness, and almost impossibly I met her, and suddenly, it was as if a light switch had been flicked. I was illuminated. Illuminated by her soul, illuminated by her beauty, her selfless ways of making me smile... illuminated by everything that she was. She was gorgeous. I remember a time where we did nothing but stay in bed for an entire day just... existing. I had never known a wonder in my life so beyond heaven, so beyond pure, unabashed glory in her presence.
We were happy for two months.
Then she was SHOT IN THE FACE. A man with a gun SHOT HER IN THE FACE. I SAW IT HAPPEN IN FRONT OF ME. Her beautiful smile... her perfect face... obliterated by a single bullet that passed between her eyes and exploded through the back of her skull. The brain that held our memories, the brain that was capable of understanding how to make me the happiest man in the world, had suddenly spilled onto the pavement of the street in front of our apartment... the apartment we shared together. Do you understand? With a single bullet, this woman that I cherished and worshipped ceased to exist. HER FACE EXPLODED INTO HER BRAIN AND SKULL.
I thought I could never love again.
Then I saw "Slimed", and I was all like, "Fuck that bitch"!
"Slimed" makes my dead girlfriend look like exactly what she is: a rotting corpse in a coffin without a face.
I love this movie.

I love this movie.
This is a worthy addition to the genre of silly movies with intelligence., heart and weirdness. I wrote another review under a name I have forgotten and in researching it discovered that this movie is a Troma production, by far the most imaginative and pleasing that I've seen. It even has insight and meaning! We need a genre name for these movies. Maybe Tromatic? Dadaesque? Now is the time we need these movies, more than the last time the world was collapsing.
An atheist park ranger and a bible salesman must join forces to save the world after stumbling into a slimey conspiracy while lost in the wilderness. A brainless yet seriously funny twist on nature horror and slimesploitation. Slimed is the over the top nonsense you need to turn off your brain and tickle your funny bone at the end of a long and stressful day.

- TriviaAll the slime in the film, including the tidal wave, was made of oatmeal, corn syrup and neon pink food coloring (in order to key the slime out for green screen plates).
