Trivia

When Sam is talking to his daughter during the flashback, the star pattern on her pajama shirt forms the three-dot pattern that is a signature of the Splinter Cell series. Additionally, the stuffed animal's button eyes and the glow-in-the-dark star stickers on the door form this pattern as well. See more »

Goofs

At the end of the demo when Sam shoots the man holding a hostage he shoots him on the face. The sound his weapon makes is loud and not silenced. Earlier the same gun was silenced. See more »

Quotes

[from trailer]
Sam Fisher: I used to want them to forget about me - it made sense at the time. I'd lost my daughter, I'd shot my best friend, I'd seen the agency I gave my life to turn around and throw me to the dogs. So I made a deal: I wouldn't bother them and they wouldn't bother me, and we'd both let sleeping dogs lie. It was good enough for a while, when all I wanted to do was be someone else and forget everything I'd done. But that never lasts... You always come back to who you are, you always come ...

A fulfilling experience, but I suggest playing other Splinter Cell games before this.
10 October 2014 | by WakenPayneSee all my reviews

This has been a game that was recommended to me and I actually wanted to play it despite it being the sixth entry in the franchise. However, I go it and sat down and played it and it's not actually that bad of a video game.

The plot is that Sam Fisher is contacted by the person that usually gives him objectives saying that Black Arrow, a terrorist group is influencing Third Echelon (The covert operation Fisher works for) and used Fisher's daughter as a way to lie to him and say that she's dead and that the only way for both Fisher and his daughter to be reunited after all these years is to take down Black Arrow and the conspiracy to take the Presidential chair.

Okay, this game is way too short. If you aren't completely fluent with the controls, you'll probably finish the game in about 6 or 7 hours. It just seems like "Okay, you present us with a very good story and you DON'T get newcomers to get invested?" I mean I have never played a Splinter Cell game before but in this case it feels like they had enough material to do it if it was a solo game but it's like it expected you to already walk in with a pre-determined knowledge and likability of who these character's are. I mean I was invested somewhat into what was going on but it feels like this needs a lot of work, My point is I don't need to play 5 other games of back-story to care about this one to the point of me giving it a higher rating.

The stealth mechanics are fluent, in a way that strangely reminds me of Hit-man Absolution, It's almost the same interface - although unlike Hit-man 5 where if you get caught you can go guns ablazing - here you have to be very careful. And the whole darkness and EMP thing works really well in just getting me to sneak right past them. I just think the upgrading system on the guns are off because if you're smart, all you do is upgrade certain weapons that can be silenced (How do you play a stealth game with these guns when they DON'T have silencers?) and then just max them out and play with just those 2 maybe 3 weapons.

So At the end I will play other Splinter Cell games in the future (maybe the first one, I see that one a lot around second-hand stores where I get older games) but as an introductory to the franchise, it's a little rocky to say the least. If you're looking for a stealth game in which with careful strategy can turn into a cover-shooter then this game is for you. However, I thought the story would deliver just a little bit more.
