Storyline

Dexter has always known his father's Code was meant to protect him from exposure. But after committing a serious mistake, he wonders if it could have been designed to protect him from something even more dangerous - human emotion. When he discovers that Arthur is planning an out-of-town trip, Dexter sees an opportunity to ride along and gain insight into the mind of a fellow monster. Even so, Dexter isn't prepared for the startling revelations Arthur makes along the way, revelations about his own past which only serve to convince Dexter of what he must do. Meanwhile, back at Miami Metro, Debra refuses to let a technicality keep her off the Trinity case. She works through others to ensure her voice is heard - that is, until she realizes that her single-minded pursuit of the Trinity Killer may have blinded her to the truth.

Trivia

In this episode, Arthur accidentally hits a deer on a wooded road. He and Dexter climb out of the car to check on the deer. This scene is very similar to the opening of Harry and the Hendersons, also starring John Lithgow as a man who accidentally hits a Sasquatch on a wooded road in the mountains of Washington state and climbs out of his station wagon to check on the animal...twice! Goofs

After discovering ash stuck to the wall with saliva at one of Trinity's crime scenes, Masuka carries out tests and declares that the DNA from the saliva and the DNA from the ash suggest they are both from the same family. However in cremation DNA is destroyed, so there would be no way to tell if they were related. See more »

Dexter Morgan: [narrating] So I made a mistake, it could have happened to anyone. Well, any murder. Not that murders typically care whether their victims are innocent or not. But why is it eating at me?

Dexter is uncomfortable for having killed and innocent and he visits Arthur Mitchell and his family and he learns that Trinity is planning to travel to Tampa. Dexter plots a scheme to travel to a Convention of Meteorology in Tampa to kill the serial-killer. He forces Trinity to give a ride to him and they travel together. Dexter tells to Trinity that he had killed a man by mistake in a hunting accident. Trinity brings Dexter to the house where he lived when he was a child and he accidentally killed his sister in the bathroom and Dexter concludes that this was the place where all started.

Meanwhile, in the Miami Metro, Debra shows cases of bludgeoning and convinces Lieutenant Maria La Guerta to chase The Trinity Killer. They decide to collect DNA from people that match the killer's profile expecting to find the serial-killer.

"Road Kill" is another episode of Dexter and Trinity, and the writers have put on stall the death of the serial-killer. This season is repetitive and after six or seven episodes, the plot is no longer engaging. Dexter rescuing Trinity is terrible and inconsistent with his code and feelings. My vote is eight.
