Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus Will Lead Nat Faxon and Jim Rash’s ‘Force Majeure’ Remake

While Ruben Östlund reached newfound acclaim thanks to a Palme d’Or win for The Square, it was his prior film, Force Majeure, in which he landed on our radars. A rigorously assured exploration of the responsibility found in marriage, it’s deeply funny and smartly observed, with performances that rely on acute gestures and movements to convey things some films take an entire runtime to explore. It was inevitable an American remake would be in the works and after an initial announcement back in 2015, things are finally moving forward.

With Julia Louis-Dreyfus still attached, Will Ferrell has come on board the Fox Searchlight production, which is now titled Downhill, Deadline reports. The Oscar-winning duo of Nat Faxon and Jim Rash will direct the film as scripted by Jesse Armstrong (Four Lions), which “will chart how a narrow avalanche escape during a ski vacation in the Alps throws a seemingly

Review: Will Oldham Flips Through His Backpages on ‘Songs of Love and Horror’

This unplugged set is the audio companion to Oldham’s new book of the same name – a compendium of lyrics to over 200 songs he’s written for Palace Brothers, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and other recording projects over the past 25 years. If he’s not a household name, he’s an indie rock icon and touchstone for 21st century folkies of a certain slant; he’s covered by Johnny Cash, written for soul vet Candi Staton, collaborated with Bjork, and sung backup with numerous top-shelf singer-songwriters. And like other song-poet heavyweights,

Steve Carell movies: 14 greatest films, ranked worst to best, include ‘Beautiful Boy,’ ‘Foxcatcher,’ ’40-Year-Old Virgin’
Steve Carell is back in the Oscar race with “Beautiful Boy” for fall of 2018. Based on a pair of bestselling memoirs, it tells the harrowing true story of David Sheff‘s (Carell) desperate attempts to help his drug-addicted son, Nic (Timothee Chalamet). How does this performance fit in with the rest of the actor’s output? Let’s take a look back at 14 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.

Carell first came to prominence as a correspondent on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” appearing as a regular cast member from 1999 to 2005. He left the nightly news satire to play bumbling boss Michael Scott in “The Office,” a role which brought him six Emmy nominations as Best Comedy Actor and a Golden Globe win in 2006.

Ariana Grande’s ‘Sweetener’ Proves That Trap Is the New Pop

Ariana Grande’s ‘Sweetener’ Proves That Trap Is the New Pop
Like nearly every modern pop star, Ariana Grande has flitted from genre to genre over the course of her career, easily collapsing the distance between the steroidal Edm of “Break Free” and the relaxed reggae of “Side to Side,” the clipped Eighties pop of “Love Me Harder” and the storming house of “Into You,” the hip-hop soul of “The Way” and the retro-soul of “Dangerous Woman.”

But with her new album Sweetener, she set her sights on conquering trap, the Southern hip-hop variant defined by sludgy, savage basslines and jittery swarms of drum programming.

Movie Review – Down a Dark Hall (2018)

Down a Dark Hall, 2018.

Directed by Rodrigo Cortés.

Starring AnnaSophia Robb, Uma Thurman, Isabelle Fuhrman, Victoria Moroles, Noah Silver, Taylor Russell, and Rosie Day.

Synopsis:

Kit Gordy, a new student at the exclusive Blackwood Boarding School, confronts the institution’s supernatural occurrences and dark powers of its headmistress.

A “Young Adult” horror fantasy billing Uma Thurman, featuring famous classical ghosts, isolated inside an all-girls “gifted” school? Why is Rodrigo Cortés’ Down a Dark Hall getting buried *so* hard? It’s admittedly generic and skimps on vicious horror elements, but still, this seems like some prime marketable teeny-bopper content. Lois Duncan’s 1974 book lays the groundwork for an adaptation that turns scenes like pages through Cortés’ Victorian haunted house. With one single theater location in all of New York City, looks like a VOD watch for most of you – if what’s laid down in the paragraphs that follow is your eerie,

Song You Need to Know: Esnavi, ‘The Way’

Radio’s reluctance to take a chance on unknown, independent acts is almost cliche at this point: The airwaves are dominated by a few major-label records that are played into the ground. But along comes Esnavi, whose independently-released “The Way” is getting played by two brave R&B stations, Wbls in New York and Wakb in Augusta, Georgia.

Esnavi is in possession of a cool, generous voice and a keen grasp of southern soul tradition, and “The Way” demonstrates the enduring pleasure of old standbys. The drummer taps out a

‘Buried’ Director Rodrigo Cortés Goes ‘Down a Dark Hall’ in First Trailer

After a six-year hiatus from feature length filmmaking, Spanish director Rodrigo Cortés is finally back with his latest fantasy horror picture Down a Dark Hall – also known by its alternate title Blackwood. Best known for his tense direction on the Ryan Reynolds-led Buried and the Sigourney Weaver-led Red Lights, Cortés is no stranger to the horror-thriller genre. In Dark Hall, Cortés throws a fantastical twist onto things as the film deals with the supernatural – spookily depicted in the first trailer for the film, which Lionsgate has now released.

Down a Dark Hall centers on a troublesome young adult named Kit Gordy who, after a brief altercation with the law, is sent to a mysterious disciplinary boarding school – “Welcome to Blackwood” the stern headmaster Madame Duret (played by Uma Thurman) announces in the trailer. From here, things only become darker. Accompanied by four other similarly aged girls, Kit and her

Pete Davidson Is (Probably) Marrying Ariana Grande for Love, Not Her Eight-Figure Net Worth

She may have "No Tears Left to Cry"… but Ariana Grande has lot of dollars left to spend! The pint-sized pop star has a net worth 90 times greater than that of her reported fiancé, Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ariana Grande's net worth is in the $45 million range. Pete's net worth, on the other hand, is just $500,000. But hey, he doesn't have a platinum-level music career supplementing his TV paychecks. After performing at theater and music gigs in her home state of Florida, Ariana was cast in the Broadway musical 13 in 2008 and then in the Nickelodeon show Victorious a year later (alongside her 13 co-star Elizabeth Gillies). Ariana's break into the mainstream, though, came in 2013 with the release of her debut album, Yours Truly. Bolstered by the lead single "The Way," Yours Truly topped the charts and was certified platinum. Then came the double-platinum album
