‘Overlord’ Wins Early Raves at Fantastic Fest: ‘Everything I Wanted From a WWII Nazi Zombie Movie’

‘Overlord’ Wins Early Raves at Fantastic Fest: ‘Everything I Wanted From a WWII Nazi Zombie Movie’
Up for some pulpy, horror exploitation goodness this fall? If the reaction from its premiere at Fantastic Fest is any indication, “Overlord” may be exactly what you are looking for.

Last night, the WWII zombie film from director Julius Avery and producer J.J. Abrams earned rave reviews at the genre-oriented film festival in Austin, with “Deadpool” creator Rob Liefeld and “Doctor Strange” writer C. Robert Cargill among those in the audience. Early tweets and reviews have been glowing, praising the film as a must-see for anyone who likes their horror films as enthusiastically nasty as possible.

Comparisons have also been made to the video game series “Wolfenstein,” which has been putting a monster twist on the Nazis since 1981.

Deadpool Creator Says The Merc Has A Bright Future In The McU

Disney will soon own the Fox superhero IPs, the most prominent of which is the X-Men franchise. This means that at some point in the next few years, the cinematic universe begun in Bryan Singer’s X-Men way back in 2000 will come to an end and we’ll see an all-new incarnation of them turning up in the McU.

Arguably, the mainstream X-Universe films have run their course: X-Men: Apocalypse simply wasn’t very good, I haven’t heard anything positive about Dark Phoenix and Logan gave Wolverine as moving an end as you can get. But there’s one corner of Fox’s X-Universe that’s healthier than ever: Deadpool.

Ryan Reynolds’ take on the Rob Liefeld character is an audience favorite and has repeatedly broken box office records for R-rated movies. But could Dp ever fit into the Disney-run McU? It’s about as difficult to imagine anyone

Marvel Embraces X-Men Again as Mutants Get Ready for Disney Debut

The Disney purchase of Fox hasn't yet closed, but it's pretty much an inevitability at this point and by this time next year, the X-Men and Fantastic Four will likely be back in the hands of Marvel Studios. That means big changes are on the horizon, but some of those changes are already taking place behind the scenes. Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld recently shed some light on those changes.

Rob Liefeld recently appeared as a guest at Wizard World Comic Con in Austin. During a panel, which I attended, he spoke a bit about the future of the X-Men as it pertains to Marvel Comics. The publisher hasn't been releasing nearly as much mutant-related material over the past two decades, as Fox has been capitalizing on the movies since they own the rights, leaving little motivation for Marvel to put out X-Men comics. However, as Liefeld explains, that's already shifting.

Deadpool Creator Believes Ryan Reynolds Will Have a Long Career in the McU

Disney hasn't yet closed their purchase of Fox's media assets, but the deal is drawing ever nearer, meaning that the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool franchises will be under the control of Marvel Studios before we even know it. That has raised many questions. Specifically, that of how Disney, a very PG/PG-13, family friendly company is going to handle the Merc With a Mouth. Creator Rob Liefeld isn't terribly worried, as he thinks Ryan Reynolds has a long future ahead of him in the Marvel universe, even after the merger is complete.

Rob Liefeld, who created Deadpool, as well as Cable, Domino and a host of other characters for Marvel Comics, recently appeared at Wizard World Comic Con in Austin. During a panel I was in attendance at, he was asked about any information he may have regarding the character's future once the merger is complete. Liefeld made

Comics on Film: Disney CEO Confirms Marvel Studios' 'X-Men' Films, Internet Is Weirdly Surprised

Comics on Film has been keeping a very close eye on the unfolding saga concerning the Walt Disney Company's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which is of particular interest to comic book movie fans because of Fox's ownership over a few key Marvel Comics-based franchises, which include the X-Men, Deadpool and the Fantastic Four. As long as the tumultuous story has been unfolding, it's been easy for Marvel fans to get excited about the possibility of the Avengers and the X-Men occupying the same screen at the same time or Peter Parker and Tony Stark getting to pick the mammoth intellect of Reed Richards. It was inevitable for Disney to consolidate the properties of Marvel Comics under the guiding hand of the brand's film studio, but oddly enough, the internet...

20 Mistakes Fans Completely Missed In The Deadpool Movies

Making a movie is hard work, no one would try and argue otherwise. Given that hundreds of people's work and literal tens of millions of dollars are put into it, and it could be assumed that there would be little to no mistakes. However, that’s rarely the case.

Cars in the background of Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings, Stormtroopers banging their heads in A New Hope, or bullet holes appearing in the wall before a gun is fired in Pulp Fiction. Movie mistakes, or goofs, are nothing new to Hollywood and one would be hard-pressed to find a movie without at least one.

Deadpool was unfortunately awarded the title of having the most mistakes of any movie released in 2016 by Radio Times. Continuity, crew/equipment visible, plot holes, factual errors, unsynchronized audio; so many avenues for mistakes. When a film has so many people on it, it

Things got a little flirty between David Beckham and Ryan Reynolds on Instagram on Wednesday.

Disney CEO Confirms Kevin Feige Will Take Charge Of The X-Men

It’s fair to say the most discussed element of Disney’s acquisition of Fox is that Marvel Studios will now have access to the X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four, bringing just about every Marvel comics character under their jurisdiction. But just because they have access to these characters doesn’t mean that it’s confirmed that they’ll be folded into the McU. Or at least, it didn’t until now.

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Disney’s CEO Bob Iger recently and put the question to him and, yes, he’s now revealed that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will take the X-Men and the Four under his wing once the leaves have settled and the acquisition deal’s finalized. While Iger didn’t say whether the various continuities would be merged, he did suggest so, as he commented there would no longer be “two Marvels.”

Disney CEO Confirms Kevin Feige Will Oversee The X-men and Fantastic Four Properties

I know this may seem like obvious news, but some people have wondered if the Fox creative teams would continue to develop X-Men and Fantastic Four movies separately after Disney takes over. After all, there are a lot of X-Men films being planned and developed over at Fox.

Well, Disney CEO Bob Iger recently confirmed with THR that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will, in fact, be overseeing the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises when the deal closes. He explains:

"I think it only makes sense. I want to be careful here because of what's been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn't be two Marvels."

Iger was then asked, "so Deadpool could become an Avenger?" To which He replied:

"Kevin's got a lot of ideas. I'm not suggesting that's one of them.

Disney CEO Weighs In On Deadpool Joining The Avengers

Wade Wilson is many things to many people – Deadpool, the Merc With a Mouth… you name it. But could he one day become the new recruit for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?

That very question was presented to Disney chief Bob Iger during his recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, one in which he covered all manner of topic, including the company’s buzzworthy streaming service, James Gunn, and why the initial output of one Star Wars movie per year may have been a step too far. And so begins a “slowdown” that will likely take into effect after the launch of Episode IX next Christmas.

As for Deadpool’s chances of rubbing shoulders with the Avengers, it seems the fate of Wade Wilson currently rests in the hands of McU über-producer Kevin Feige, with Iger revealing that:

Kevin [Feige]’s got a lot of ideas. I’m not suggesting that’s one of them.

Ryan Reynolds Discusses the "Stillness" on Set of His Movie . . . While Cars Crash Behind Him

Ryan Reynolds is currently in Italy filming 6 Underground, which is said to be Netflix's most expensive movie to date. With director Michael Bay at the helm, it should come as no surprise that the movie goes big when it comes to action, but on Wednesday, Ryan shared a video of a quiet moment on set. In his usual deadpan style, the actor leans against the wall as he explains how much he's enjoying "the stillness" of working with Bay, before he is, um, interrupted by a scene being filmed in the background.

Though we know very little about the plot of the movie, which also stars Dave Franco, Mélanie Laurent, Adria Arjona, and Ben Hardy, it seems like Ryan is taking a Deadpool-esque approach to his covert promotion. We're pretty sure this isn't the last fun video we'll see before the movie hits Netflix in 2019.
