Florence Pugh gives her whole body to her performance in “We Live in Time,” and, yes, that includes her real hair.
Out in theaters nationwide now, director John Crowley’s film centers on Tobias (Andrew Garfield) and Almut (Pugh), a young couple who meets when she accidentally runs him over with her car. Despite playing fast and loose with the “cute” part of that meet-cute, the two fall in love and the film follows their life together over the next several years.
Of course, we don’t follow that life chronologically; as the title suggests, the movie jumps around in time to major moments for the couple. According to Crowley, the movie was never going to be told in a linear fashion. “There was one period in the editing room where Justine [Wright] and I, my editor, we stretched it into a linear shape to see and it just didn’t work anyway,...

However, a fan favorite in the list would definitely be her participation in We Live in Time alongside Andrew Garfield. In this romantic drama movie, she plays the role of Almut, a competitive figure skater who later transitions into a chef. But there was one specific element of her character that made the actress train hard.

As you may or may not have noticed, Florence Pugh took a breather from acting this summer, a rare break for the self-described “work maniac.”
In an interview with British Vogue, the costar (with Andrew Garfield) of the soon-to-be-released romance-drama We Live In Time said she took a break from acting recently for the first time in a career that goes back to 2014’s The Falling and more recently included roles in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two.
The time-out marked the “first time ever in my career when I’ve actually asked for a summer break”, she tells the magazine. “I’m an absolute work maniac, [but] I can see I’m exhausted.”
Since 2023, Pugh has had on-screen or voice roles in The Trident, A Good Person, Human Resources, Oppenheimer, The Boy and the Heron, Dune: Part Two and We Live in Time. She’ll...

While Zach Braff said he misses aspects of Scrubs, he admitted the cast was “kind of fried” by the ninth and final season.
The actor-producer-director looked back at filming the Emmy-winning show, which ran from 2001 to 2010, on a recent episode of the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast. He also got candid about the exhaustion the cast felt by the end.
“I miss laughing every day. Belly laughing every day was the job. And when that goes away, by the time nine years were over, we were sort of all exhausted by it,” Braff, who played intern John “J.D.” Dorian on the medical sitcom, explained. “We were starting to repeat jokes. Everyone’s pretty fried.”
The Garden State actor added that the long hours on set played a huge role. “We would do insane hours that people don’t even do anymore,” he said. “We didn’t really...

Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh find everlasting love after she accidentally runs him over in her car in the trailer for director John Crowley’s We Live in Time, which dropped on Wednesday.
That chance encounter changes their lives over decades as they find romance, build a home and family together and face a host of challenges on their way. With their relationship still apparently fresh, Tobias (Garfield) at one point in the trailer, having shed his neck brace after his car accident injuries, tells Almut (Pugh) that he must leave, only to be asked why he’s in a rush.
“Because I’m worried there’s a very distinct and real possibility that I’m about to fall in love with you,” he answers, before they embrace passionately. Along with the birth of a child, Almut faces her own health crisis at another point in the trailer, which has...

One of the most brilliant screen debuts I’ve ever seen was, no doubt, Andrew Garfield’s performance in the movie Boy A. While largely obscure now, in this British indie, Garfield played a young man re-entering society after fourteen years in a juvenile prison for a heinous crime. The movie never really reveals his crime until we, as an audience, have absolutely fallen in love with this sensitive, kindly young man, and it’s one of the most potent explorations of society’s failure to allow former prisoners to rehabilitate themselves that I’ve ever seen.
Since then, Garfield has become a big star thanks to his underrated turn as Peter Parker in the Marc Webb Spider-Man films, with Spider-Man: No Way Home teasing the fact that his time in the spider-verse may be far from over. He’s also done modern classics like The Social Network and Martin Scorsese’s Silence,...

Zoe Lister-Jones was proud to attend Sunday’s Spirit Awards, and the reason is twofold. First, the multihyphenate talent turned up in Santa Monica to support a pair of nominations for Roku’s Slip, the original series she created, starred in and executive produced alongside a team that includes Dakota Johnson. Reason No. 2: She did so by walking into the event hand-in-hand with a new love in her life.
When the subject of her plus-one came up during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 41-year-old Lister-Jones responded with a big reveal: “I’m here, I’m queer, I have some fear but I’m working through it.” Lister-Jones is in a new relationship with a fellow filmmaker, Sammi Cohen, who most recently directed Netflix’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, the teen comedy starring Adam Sandler and family including wife Jackie and their daughters Sadie and Sunny.

Shannon, who grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, joins previously announced honorees Pierce Brosnan (born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland) and Oscar-winning VFX artist Richard Baneham (born in Dublin).
“Molly’s Irish American characters on Saturday Night Live — like Mary Katherine Gallagher and Sally O’Malley — are iconic,” Trina Vargo, founder of the US-Ireland Alliance, said in a statement.

Longtime talent agent Scott Manners, known for his founding and development of the Artists & Representatives talent agency, has died. He was 68.
Manners died on Friday, surrounded by family in Los Angeles, after a brief battle with Als, according to a statement from Artists & Representatives.
“Through the years, we have all been moved by his mission to brilliantly represent the artists who bring our society closer to love,” the statement continued. “It was his life’s work to make a difference every day and change lives for the better.”
Manners founded his agency, then called Stone Manners, more than three decades ago. It was renamed twice; first to Stone Manners Salners after Glenn Salners became a partner in 2010, and then to Artists & Representatives in 2019 when the company added more partners and expanded to New York City.

We’ve seen Groundhog’s Day as a slasher with Happy Death Day, It’s a Wonderful Life as a slasher with It’s a Wonderful Knife, Freaky Friday as a slasher with Freaky, and Back to the Future as a slasher with Totally Killer. Next in the “this movie, but it’s a slasher” line-up is Departing Seniors, which mixes the high school slasher set-up with elements from Stephen King’s The Dead Zone. Dark Sky Films will be giving Departing Seniors a limited theatrical and VOD release on February 2nd, and with that date right around the corner a trailer has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.
The feature directorial debut of actress Clare Cooney, Departing Seniors was written by actor Jose Nateras and centers on high school student Javier, who doesn’t exactly fit in with the popular kids as a queer Mexican-American.

Film historians will inevitably look back on 2023 as a year of risk-taking, with filmmakers turning to personal projects backed by major studios. On paper and in hindsight, a movie about the world’s most iconic doll sounds obvious, but it took real balls—or a lack thereof in Ken’s case—for Mattel and Warner Bros. to get behind a deconstructed look at the toy in Greta Gerwig’s existential Barbie. Universal arguably took an even bigger risk, putting their full force behind a three hour movie about the birth of the atomic bomb. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer proved perfect counter-programming to Gerwig’s Barbie, as moviegoers championed the double act into the summer box office unicorn Barbenheimer. Martin Scorsese brought his American Western crime epic Killers of the Flower Moon to the screen after seven years of development. Emerald Fennell debuted her second directorial effort, the darkly imaginative and highly divisive Saltburn.

To be eligible in the general categories, films (meaning a runtime of more than 40 minutes) must open in a commercial theater in at least one of the following areas: Los Angeles County; the city of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia, between Jan. 1, 2023 and Dec. 31, 2023. Additionally, it must complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue.
To be eligible for the best picture category specifically, the movies must be eligible for the general entry and have “submitted a confidential Academy Representation and Inclusion Standards entry form.” Additionally, the film must meet two of the four standards required, in addition to the theatrical component.

Orlando: My Political Biography is an unlikely contender but you gotta love its boldness.
The Academy has released a couple of eligibility lists, including one for the Best Original Song race. Ninety-four different tunes have been submitted for the Oscar. It's three maximum for each movie, from which only two can be nominated for the same title. Barbie, The Face of the Faceless, A Good Person, The Little Mermaid, State of the Unity, and Wish have submitted three, while many other projects went for double trouble. There are no significant surprises in terms of omitted contenders, but some submission choices delight with their boldness, and others shock because their origin is so obscure. For example, I quibble with the one song chosen from Dicks: The Musical and Carmen. I'm also delighted that Orlando: My Political Biography threw its hat in the race and just found out...

Ninety-four songs and 149 scores have been deemed eligible in the music categories for the 96th annual Academy Awards, Variety has learned.
Voting began Thursday, with 390 members of the Academy music branch eligible to vote in this year’s competition. And for the first time in years, there appear to be no surprises or glaring omissions.
Any film can submit up to three songs, and the “Barbie” entries were as expected: Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made for,” Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and the Mark Ronson-Andrew Wyatt song “I’m Just Ken.”
Five other films submitted the maximum of three songs, including two from Disney: the live-action “The Little Mermaid,” with “For the First Time,” “The Scuttlebutt” and “Wild Uncharted Waters,” all by Alan Menken (who won Oscars for the original in 1989) and Lin-Manuel Miranda; and “Wish,” the Julia Michaels-Benjamin Rice tunes including “I’m a Star,...

Helen wants to please. She is driven by a seemingly fathomless pit of toxic positivity that, on a surface level may seem benign but once the veneer cracks exposes deep-seated hurt and rather unhealthy coping mechanisms. I’m A Good Person, directed by Tamsin Topolski, is a wonderfully dark dive into one woman’s journey to find love and connection as she navigates the cruel world we live in always looking on the bright side of life. Topolski found herself immediately drawn to the acerbic and unconventional script written by Ross O’Donnellan, who stars alongside Laure Stockley and brings the film’s vile male antagonist to punchable life. The world crafted in I’m a Good Person reflects a stark and almost bare existence which highlights the noxiousness of the relationship Helen has tied herself to and evocatively explores what happens when even the meekest of us are pushed to breaking point.

Oppenheimer proved to be one of the biggest cinematic hits in 2023, and Florence Pugh performed phenomenal work in the movie. Florence Pugh's relationship status remains a bit of an enigma. The 27-year-old actor was linked to photographer Charlie Pooch after the two were spotted together in February, as seen in photos obtained by Harper's Bazaar. However, Pugh hasn't been seen with Pooch since March, meaning that the "Oppenheimer" star's relationship status isn't entirely clear.
Back in 2019, Pugh made headlines for her relationship with Zach Braff - who is 21 years older than her. Despite their age difference and the backlash they received for it, the former couple dated for three years, ultimately breaking things off in 2022. Even after ending things, though, they've appeared to remain on good terms.
In an interview with Harper's Bazaar in August 2022, Pugh opened up about how dating Braff in the public eye affected her. "Whenever I feel like that line has been crossed in my life, whether it's paparazzi taking private moments, or moments that aren't even real,...

Exclusive: Writer-director Kyle Hausmann-Stokes has continued rounding out an impressive cast for his debut feature, the dark veteran dramedy My Dead Friend Zoe, bringing Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption), Gloria Reuben (Mr. Robot) and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Brittany Runs a Marathon) aboard for roles.
The film delving into the lives of military veterans, to highlight both their triumphs and challenges upon returning home, will have the trio starring alongside the previously announced Ed Harris, Sonequa Martin-Green and Natalie Morales.
Written by Hausmann-Stokes and A.J. Bermudez, My Dead Friend Zoe is based on Merit x Zoe, a short that Hausmann-Stokes co-wrote and directed last year, which draws on his personal experience during and after the military, as a Bronze Star combat veteran. Never let it be said that Zendaya isn’t up for a challenge. The two-time Emmy-winning “Euphoria” star’s newest film “Challengers” dropped its first trailer this week, denoting the beginning of a marketing campaign that will continue until the film is released in theaters on Sept. 15.
Tennis player turned coach Tashi (Zendaya) has taken her husband, Art (Mike Faist), and transformed him into a world-famous Grand Slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a “Challenger” event — close to the lowest level of pro tournament — where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend (Josh O’Connor).
Watch the New Trailer for ‘Challengers’:
The movie’s theatrical debut is still more than two months off, so unfortunately for Zendaya fans it will be even longer before it’s ready to stream from home.

Loyalty is essential to a person’s character, and breaking away from the norm to explore other avenues often comes at a price. For Florence Pugh, her signing to play Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe rubbed people in the indie film community the wrong way. Some actors see the Marvel community as a blight against their craft. In contrast, others embrace the opportunity to star in a money-printing blockbuster alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood. In a Time Next Generation Leaders profile, Pugh admits she’s experienced backlash for starring in Marvel properties like Black Widow and the Disney+ series Hawkeye.
“So many people in the indie film world were really pissed off at me. They were like, ‘Great, now she’s gone forever,'” Pugh told Time. “And I’m like, no, I’m working as hard as I used to work. I’ve always done back-to-back movies.

Florence Pugh revealed to Time magazine that a lot of people in the independent film community were “pissed off” at her when she decided to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pugh made a name for herself with acclaimed roles in indies such as “Lady Macbeth” and “Midsommar” before earning an Oscar nomination for Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women.” She joined the MCU as Yelena Belova in “Black Widow” and reprised the role in the Disney+ series “Hawkeye.” Yelena will be back in Marvel’s upcoming tentpole film “Thunderbolts.”
