Storyline

T.J., a high school freshman, lost his mother two months before in a car accident: his father pops pills and sits on the couch; his grandmother holds things together, chatting and cooking. T.J. wants the car back from the salvage yard where the owner's son is a bully. By happenstance, Hesher, a foul-mouthed squatter, moves in with T.J's family. T.J. also meets Nicole, a grocery clerk near poverty who helps him once. Hesher involves T.J. in crime, the bully is omnipresent, mom's car is slipping away, dad has checked out, T.J. watches Nicole at work, and his grandma invites him to join her morning walk: the odds are long that T.J. can assemble a family to help him thrive. Fantastic and underrated
13 December 2012 | by jonny_skinnSee all my reviews

I was looking for films with Levitt in them and I came across this. The acting from all the characters is fantastic. Hesher constantly makes you laugh but also show's his philosophical side throughout the movie. Reviews that I have read have this film massively underrated as all through the movie it provokes an emotion of some sort if that be happiness, sadness, frustration, sympathy. It is never boring or slow moving and it will give your eyes glued to the screen at all times. Piper Laurie who plays the grandmother Madeleine is very good and perfectly acted as she perfectly plays the role. Devin Brochu and Rainn Wilson, who play T.J and Paul Forney looks so compatible with Laurie and Levitt that it makes the acting look as natural as possible. This movie is incredibly GOOD and anybody who enjoys films of any kind should undoubtedly see this movie ASAP!
