About twenty minutes from the beginning, we see a chart of Paul Garrett's family tree when he shows it to Lew Vernor. The genealogy is copied intact from the same scene in the novel, and so it conflicts with some of the revised and streamlined events in the miniseries. Some examples: the chart shows Jim Lloyd dying in 1924, while in the miniseries he was still alive in 1933. The miniseries has Lloyd's daughter Nancy (mentioned but never seen) married to Beeley Garrett, but the chart shows her married to Paul Mercy. And the book's family tree contained an error which was copied to what is seen here; it lists Prudence Wolf and Pale Star Zendt as mother and daughter but gives them the highly unlikely birth years of 1866 and 1874 respectively.
When Paul Garrett shows Verner his family tree, they used the one printed in the book. However, the mini-series skipped a generation. Paul is Jim and Charlotte's grandson in the mini-series, but the tree shows him as their great grandson which is how it is in the book.
The passenger side mirror on the the truck that Sydney and Verneer travel in appears and disappears. It is absent during studio filmed scenes, and present during the establishment scenes.
Both Morgan Wedell (Robert Vaughn) and Lewis Verner (Andy Griffith) jump into the hole leading to the cave where Philip Wendell (Doug McKeon) hid Soren Sorenson's (Sandy McPeak) cave. Both men are far below the hole's rim, even when standing erect. Yet Morgan Wendell is shown basically stepping out of the hole. If exiting the hole was that easy, neither man would have needed to jump in and risk injuring themselves.
Lewis Verner (Andy Griffith) and Paul Garrett (David Jansen) hold a conversation in an airplane while flying over the ranch. This is not possible because such aircraft do not have sufficient sound-deadening insulation. Pilot's and passengers need noise-canceling headsets to communicate with each other or over the radio.
Paul Garrett continues to refers to Jim Lloyd as his great grandfather. Paul Garrett would have been the grandson of Jim Lloyd not the great grandson.
