Devon Browning is viewed as an outcast and is a victim of physical and emotional abuse from his classmates. After a tragic death in his family, his life begins to fall off course. He eventually seeks revenge by bringing a gun to school and opening fire on his classmates. The film offers an unwavering look at violence in schools today by showing the causes, effects, and consequences of a school shooting.

Did You Know?
During production, certain violent or explicit scenes were shot in a few different ways. They would shoot a "director's version" and then a "school cut version." This proved positive when the school board did not request any cuts to the version that was presented to them. See more

In the Director's Cut version: At the end of the credits a scene where Devon points his gun into a coffin and shoots towards the camera is included. This is the only remnants of an early concept during Pre-Production that was originally thought up to cut down the on-screen gore. It was shot at a funeral home with a real coffin. See more
The Only Way has been officially released in 2 cuts on DVD. Neither of these cuts are exactly as it was premiered in 2004.
