Storyline

Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) is the fiercely independent daughter of eccentric adventurer Lord Richard Croft (Dominic West), who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of twenty-one without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father's global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he's truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can't understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death. Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad's last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will... Written by Warner Bros. Pictures

Trivia

In 2009, Warner Brothers had plans to reboot the franchise with some help from Lin Pictures, with Megan Fox attached to star. However, when in 2011 the project died, MGM began its efforts to bring their prequel version to life. In 2013, the studio brought on Marti Noxon to re-write it and take over for Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, all of whom were replaced by the Daugherty. See more »

Goofs

After falling in the river Lara ends up on a wrecked and rusted WWII aircraft laying across the river. Metal aircraft arr made from aluminum, as iron is way too heavy. This would not result in a brown rust patina as shown, but would be white, as aluminum turns white when it oxidizes. See more »

Quotes

Lord Richard Croft: May 17th, 2009. Further research on Himiko. According to legend, Himiko, the first queen of Japan was a powerful sorceress who ruled the empire through dark magic. Spreading death and destruction by the mere touch of her hand. She was only stopped by a single twist of fate. An army of her own generals bound and dragged Himiko to an uninhabitable island in the middle of the treacherous Devil's Sea. There she remains entombed beneath the mountains. I found a spec, on an old map that ...

Crazy Credits

SPOILER: The title doesn't appear on screen until the end of the film. Following this is a brief scene of Lara returning to the pawn shop where she sold her pendant earlier in the film. She then purchases two guns, implying she will continue the fight in sequel films (a brief clip of this scene appeared in the first trailer for the movie). See more »

Alicia's Great
18 October 2018 | by Amritz101See all my reviews

Overall this is your average action movie.

But, Alicia Vikander on the other hand is an amazing action star; what a revelation! I love it when Hollywood casts an actor like Alicia in an action role who has the physique/physicality, can believably pull off the action role and perform parts or most of the stunts like running/fighting which results in seamless action scenes between star and stunt double so there's no need for shaky cam or SFX (unlike scarlet johanssen's lame natasha romanoff/BW). Also some of the action sequences are very much like in the video game.
