'Inside the Actors Studio' reaches 250 episodes: The best clips from the first 249

'Inside the Actors Studio' reaches 250 episodes: The best clips from the first 249
Acting guru and ex-Parisian pimp — seriously — James Lipton has never had trouble attracting big names to Inside the Actors Studio, which began airing on Bravo in 1994. Lipton’s first interview was with former Actors Studio president Paul Newman; the show’s first season also featured heavy hitters like Alec Baldwin, Sally Field, Dennis Hopper, Arthur Miller, Neil Simon, and Stephen Sondheim.

Nearly 20 years later, Lipton has chatted with hundreds of boldfaced names both awe-inspiring (Meryl Streep! Morgan Freeman! ) and… occasionally less awe-inspiring (was anyone really yearning to hear J. Lo describe her craft?). And naturally, those visits have produced days

'SNL' Opens With a Children's Choir Singing 'Silent Night'

'SNL' Opens With a Children's Choir Singing 'Silent Night'
Just a few days ago, an awful, incomprehensible tragedy took place in Newtown, Connecticut, when a disturbed gunman stole the lives of 20 innocent children and six heroic elementary school employees. The nation learned of the news almost immediately via each and every social network, and television stations subsequently devoted all of Friday and Saturday to coverage of the heartbreaking situation.

There’s never an easy way for Americans who are hurting – even those who may not be directly affected – to segue into watching or performing on less-critical material, whether that

Cassadee Pope Captivates With 'Over You' on 'The Voice'

Cassadee Pope Captivates With 'Over You' on 'The Voice'
With The Voice headed into a particularly cutthroat homestretch that thins two contestants from the pack of 10, people are just bringing it, and not just in the hyperbolic lip-service way that typifies those reality competition b-roll clips about leaving it all on the stage and how there are no second chances. It's hard to say who brought it the hardest this week: while Cody Belew's leather-daddy Beyoncé revue was a total Omfg, no one roped it in quite like Cassadee Pope. She began as emo cheesemonger and is transforming, week by week,

Rewind TV: White Heat; Orbit: Earth's Extraordinary Journey; Qpr: The Four Year Plan – review

Juliet Stevenson lends gravitas to drama White Heat, while Kate Humble is no Brian Cox in cosmic science series Orbit

White Heat (BBC2) | iPlayer

Orbit: Earth's Extraordinary Journey (BBC2) | iPlayer

Qpr: The Four Year Plan (BBC2) | iPlayer

Grief, bereavement, anguish: these are emotions on which Juliet Stevenson, with her resilient mouth and watery eyes, could apply for dramatic copyright. She wouldn't, though, because you just know that she's too selfless to corner any market, even one in suffering.

Still, if the part calls for a middle-aged woman stoically grappling with heartbreak, who else is a casting director going to call? In White Heat Stevenson played Charlotte, a woman about 10 years older than the actress's own age, who returns to the student house she lived in five decades before. The occupant (whose identity has yet to be revealed) had died and Charlotte was plunged into mournful reflection.

That's not much of a plunge for Stevenson,

The Box Set: An Old Idea Becomes A New (Pricier) Trend

The Box Set: An Old Idea Becomes A New (Pricier) Trend
-- Musical box sets, encapsulating a portion or all of an artist's catalog, are hardly a new trend. They've been around for decades.

But as labels begin to search for more sources of income, they're increasingly using yesterday's hits to help today's bottom line, from multi-disc deluxe editions of your favorite old album to over-the-top collections of obscurities complete with cool little tchotchkes.

And they're also reaching new heights in pricing. Love U2 beyond measure? There's the new "Achtung Baby" uber-deluxe edition, a limited, numbered box set that originally retailed for $650. It includes six CDs, four DVDs, a new documentary, a magnetic puzzle box, five clear 7-inch vinyl singles, 16 art prints, an 84-page book, a sticker sheet and a pair of Bono's bug-eyed sunglasses, among many other things.

Tony Bennett fans can own his entire recorded output – more than 1,000 of his songs spread across 73 discs and three DVDs – in "Tony Bennett: The Complete Collection,

Alice In Wonderland Through the Ages

We decided to start our little research of immortal young lady Alice in Wonderland, that still, after exactly 145 years, has a power to inspire directors all over the world.

You all guess that the main reason for this certainly is the latest, Tim Burton’s new incarnation of this story.

But let’s start from a beginning. We were all young, we all liked fairy-tales (well, some of us still do), and enjoyed so many characters, we all had our special heroes. Then, what’s so magical about this story, when it still manages to stay on the top of the list?

Ok, we all know the facts, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is written by the English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who used a pseudonym Lewis Carroll. The story tells what happens to a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit-hole into a fantasy world which is populated
