calm interplay of nature & industry

Earth, flowers and a stone are placed on top of a broken plastic toy. the grave is amongst the remains of an abandoned factory; a monolith of steel and iron, rising up to the skies. spheric devotional music accentuates the importance of the scene even further. the old man runs his fingers over the cold walls of the manmade tower.

"It is like the scales of a reptile, or the bark of a tree."

nature and industry are the main protagonists in Kanji Nakajima's Fe. the dichotomous pair is surrounded by a young girl, her mother, an adolescent boy, and an old man. interactions are sparse. the soundtrack is partly composed of the clangs and bangs of mechanical processes. Nakajima orientates himself towards the visual language of Tsukamoto or Ito. however, in Fe any hypercompositions remain absent. the factory outlets remain calm, Tetsuo does not run amok. the industrial motif cannot conquer nature. Nakajima presents an interplay between the two powers - nature gives space to industry only to return and take over again. generation follows generation. a white canvas. time passes by.

Fe is a poetic representation of life; a hidden gem worth exploring.
