- It's Christmastime again for Jim and Barbara and there's baiting aplenty in their over-decorated living room. Daughter Denise and her husband Dave arrive on Christmas Eve with aspirations for Christmas morning; meanwhile, Twiggy marches in full of festive spirit.—Scott Evans
- Dave and Denise have left the children with Antony, since "Christmas isn't really for children" according to Denise, as they visit the Royles on Christmas Eve. The next day they all, along with gate-crasher Twiggy, head to the Bests', where Denise is cooking her first-ever Christmas dinner and Jim is annoyed by the new reclining sofa. Enter Dave's parents, the overly jolly David Senior ("Four years in the RAF, 30 years in the Prudential, and 40 years in the doghouse with the wife"), who goes on about his son's bed-wetting; and his wife Jocelyn, who had a pen-pal on Death Row. Denise's cooking is disastrous: she burns the roast potatoes and fails to defrost the turkey on time, though everybody is very tolerant and enjoys her carrot crush, the only salvageable part of the meal. Afterwards they all have a sing-song and even Nana joins in, in spirit, as her face looks down from a Christmas-tree bauble.—don @ minifie-1
- It's Christmas with a difference for Jim and Barbara, as they find themselves invited to Denise and Dave's for Christmas lunch. But for Jim, the excitement is cut short when he learns that Dave's talkative father David Senior (whose prized possession is his Ford Mondeo) and mother Jocelyn will also be attending. Then Twiggy ends up inviting himself along, while Denise attempts to become the perfect hostess--with help from Nigella Lawson.
