Ryan Reynolds was originally sought after for the lead male role, marking this a reunion with Sandra Bullock after The Proposal (2009) but a deal couldn't be reached.

Shortly after Loretta is abducted, one of the characters says the police won't file a missing person report on an adult until after 24 hours have passed. This is a common misconception and has no basis in fact. Police will follow any legitimate lead and an eyewitness to the abduction would be more than enough to begin an immediate search.

In this case, the cops were familiar with the people involved with the book tour and they may have suspected there was a publicity stunt happening, since the eyewitness is the cover model. Remember, this whole movie is full of spoofs, so reality gets bent.
