Netflix added nearly 30 million global paid subscribers in 2023, though it might have watered down its hit pool in the process.
According to a new study by British streaming-data company Digital i, Netflix had fewer than half the global hits in 2023 (10) than it had in 2022 (22). Digital i defines a “hit” as an original movie or a series that was watched by at least 30 percent of Netflix’s subscriber base in North America, EU, and Latam.
The long list of 2022 Netflix hits goes like this: “Wednesday” (61.8%), “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” (53.3%), “Stranger Things 4” (48.0%), “The Adam Project” (47.9%), “Knives Out 2” (45.9%), “The Gray Man” (42.4%), “The Watcher” (41.9%), “The Tinder Swindler” (38.0%), “Inventing Anna” (37.5%), “The Sandman” (35.7%), “Senior Year” (35.6%), “1899” (34.7%), “Bridgerton” Season 2 (34.5%), “Troll” (34.0%), “Enola Holmes 2” (33.7%), “Luckiest Girl Alive” (33.4%), “Harry & Meghan” (32.7%), “Hustle” (32.6%), “The Man from Toronto” (31.5%), “Purple Hearts” (31.3%), “Me Time” (31.1%), “Day Shift” (31.0%), and “Falling for Christmas” (30.8%).

Terry Crews is a serial entertainer. The energetic actor has a muscular physique that action icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were impressed with when they worked with him on The Expendables franchise. However, despite the hulking image, Crews would not limit himself to action movies as he would use his charismatic charm for such sitcoms like Everybody Hates Chris and Are We There Yet?, as well as being the host for the reality competition, America’s Got Talent. Crews is now ready to throw some fists and let the bullets fly yet again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crews will be seen in an upcoming action-comedy that will co-star the equally charismatic muscleman, Dave Bautista. Crews and Bautista have recently wrapped filming on The Killer’s Game.
The film’s synopsis, as reported by THR, says, “Based on Jay Bonansinga’s novel, The Killer’s Game follows a veteran assassin (Bautista), who,...

Actors and married couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco previously collaborated on Franco’s feature directorial debut, The Rental, in 2020. Now, the pair are set to co-star in a new horror film, Together.
Variety reports that the horror movie feature hails from first-time writer/director Michael Shanks.
Together will explore “the horror of co-dependency told in a unique way,” though additional plot details remain under wraps at this time. That Brie and Franco are married should add an interesting layer to the co-dependency horror, which might fall under the “unique” descriptor of this horror feature.
Brie appeared in Scream 4 before starring in Franco’s The Rental, which saw two couples celebrating a weekend getaway, only to face grueling terror when an imminent threat forces them to expose well-kept secrets. The couple also appeared together onscreen in ensemble comedy The Little Hours and A24’s The Disaster Artist.

“Star Wars: Ahsoka,” the highly anticipated live-action series starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, debuts this week on Disney+.
Dawson reprises the role after appearing in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” though the character made her debut in the 2008 animated film “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and the subsequent animated series of the same name.
Ahsoka is the former padawan of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), the Jedi who turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader. She in turn had her own apprentice, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) but the two had a falling out.
“Star Wars: Ahsoka” includes other characters from “The Clone Wars” and its sequel series “Star Wars: Rebels,” including Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Huyang (David Tennant). Although teased, fans have yet to see images of Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfadi) or Anakin Skywalker.

The Shameless cast may have departed from Chicago, but nearly every actor from the Showtime series continues to act in new, groundbreaking roles.

Of course, the raucous Gallagher family isn’t without real-life scandals. As the series was winding down, actor William H. Macy’s wife, actor Felicity Huffman was involved in a high-profile college admissions scandal. Huffman was found guilty of hiring a proctor to change her daughter’s answers on the Sat. She received a short prison sentence and a fine. Macy was not charged.
But since the series wrapped in 2021, where is the Shameless cast now?
Jeremy Allen White returned to Chi-town and another gritty role
Actor Jeremy Allen White (Lip) dove headfirst into another powerful role – also set in Chicago.

Lucasfilm Animation, like so many fledgling studios, took a moment to find its footing. Founded in 2003, the company released its first feature film, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," in 2008 to much scorn. Critics were quick to recognize the film was little more than three TV episodes hastily strung together, and its janky computer animation stood out like a sore thumb compared to the far more expressive and fluid visuals in films like "Kung Fun Panda" and "Wall-e" from that same year. "Clone Wars" also saw the debut of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's young, rambunctious Padawan, and a character who was immediately the target of much-undeserved derision (and more than a little sexism).
My, my, how the turn tables. Jump ahead to 15 years later and Lucasfilm Animation is now responsible for some of the best "Star Wars" storytelling of all time, including the animated "Clone Wars" series and "Star Wars Rebels.

What’s going on with Blumhouse’s Spawn movie, you may be wondering? It’s been a pattern with this project that small bits of news are followed by long periods of radio silence, so it’s no surprise that it’s been almost a year since we’ve gotten an update. Let’s recap.
Back in October of last year, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane announced that Blumhouse was still on board the Spawn ship and that Scott Silver (Joker), Malcolm Spellman (Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Matthew Mixon had been hired the write the script. Additionally, at the time, Jamie Foxx was still attached to star as the title character.
It’s been a long hard road out of development hell with his brand new Spawn feature, which Todd McFarlane had originally planned to direct. It seems he’s stepped aside from those desires, however, with a new...

Rebel Moon: Zack Snyder’s two sci-fi films will get two cuts each to cover a wide range of audiences
Zack Snyder fans will eat well when the filmmaker’s Rebel Moon comes to Netflix in multiple forms. You heard me. In addition to splitting the sci-fi epic into two films, Snyder is creating multiple cuts of each. In an in-depth look at the film, courtesy of Vanity Fair, Snyder explains his Rebel Moon strategy and how he aims to cover a wide range of audiences with each release. One cut is a presentation that “anyone can enjoy and watch,” while the other is an explicit version aimed at adults.
In addition to Vanity Fair‘s in-depth report, the outlet shared a gallery of first-look images for the upcoming sci-fi epic. You can check out select photos from their coverage below:
“I think for fans of mine and people who are ready to take a deeper, harder dive, that’ll be fun for them,” Snyder says about his goal for the more mature cut.

Jason Oppenheim and Marie-Lou Nurk have ended their relationship, citing long distance as a challenge they couldn’t overcome.
The “Selling Sunset” star, 45, and model, 25, took to their Instagram Stories and shared the same photo and statement which read, “While we still love and care about each other very much, the distance between us has prove to be too great a challenge to overcome. When season 6 of the hit Netflix show dropped earlier this month, Oppenheim told his ex, Chrishell Stause, at an open house party that he was, in fact, in love with Nurk, whom Oppenheim started dating after his emotional split from Stause, which was documented in season 5. The John Wick franchise is putting a hit out on wallets this Friday as it becomes a billion-dollar earner globally. The John Wick franchise stands tall, with $1.011 billion across four chapters worth of spectacular stunts, stylish action, and nail-biting cliffhangers for its leading boogeyman. The latest installment, John Wick: Chapter 4, is still making money at the box office before arriving on digital and physical platforms on May 29 with $425 million.
Unlike other franchises that could experience a downturn with each chapter, the John Wick franchise is more successful with every new film. Chapter 4 cost the studio $100 million to produce. However, $425 million more than makes up for the cost, lining the pockets of studio executives and creatives in charge of the John Wick narrative.
“This milestone is a testament to the incredible work of Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves, alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who have made it their mission to...

Foxx’s family is keeping mum about what sent him to the hospital, although they’d previously announced that he was on his way to recovery. The very foundation of the John Wick franchise is the entire stunt crew at 87eleven Productions which the director, Chad Stahelski, founded with fellow action movie director David Leitch. 87eleven is a company comprised of stunt performers for the making of such action films as the John Wick franchise, Day Shift and many more. Keanu Reeves has had a collaborating relationship with the company from the ground floor as Stahelski was Reeves’ stunt double in the original The Matrix trilogy. With Reeves being such a giving individual, Variety reports that the actor who portrays the Baba Yaga had gifted the stunt crew of John Wick: Chapter 4 commemorative presents to celebrate the wrapping of such elaborate, demanding action sequences.
According to the New York Times, “At the end of the shoot, Reeves made T-shirts for the stunt performers emblazoned with the number of times they were slain over the course of the entire movie.

Director Zack Snyder left the DC Universe and has formed a pretty solid relationship with Netflix. Following the success of his zombie movie "Army of the Dead," the filmmaker moved on to an even more ambitious project in the form of an original sci-fi epic "Rebel Moon." We say "epic" because it is going to be split into two movies and, though technically an "original" idea, it was initially conceived as a potential "Star Wars" film. In any event, not only are we getting a part one and part two from Snyder, but each installment will be getting an R-rated cut as well.
I recently had the chance to speak with "John Wick: Chapter 4" re-recording mixer Andy Koyama, as well as other members of the sound team in honor of the film's release. Koyama also happens to be working on "Rebel Moon," and I asked him how that process is coming along.

The “John Wick” franchise has a reputation for razzle-dazzle filmmaking and serving as demo reels for some of the world’s finest – or at least most promising – action movie stars. “John Wick: Chapter 4” is no exception, with Donnie Yen taking center stage alongside franchise star Keanu Reeves, as Hiroyuki Sanada and Marko Zaror lend prestige and support. Bringing the opposite of “prestige,” at least in terms of the role he plays in the Chad Stahelski-directed actioner, is Scott Adkins.
Adkins has made a name for himself as one of the preeminent filmmakers in the world of direct-to-consumer (DVD/VOD/streaming/etc.) action movies. The likes of Adkins, Michael Jai White, Tony Jaa, Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren hold court in low-budget genre flicks helmed by directors like Isaac Florentine, Jesse V. Johnson, Christian Sesma, and the Kirby Brothers, that emphasize quality action sequences delivered with visual...

Scott Adkins can be a menacing man if the script calls. The action star recently had some fun in the vamp, action-comedy Day Shift, but he’s been very busy starring in flicks like the recent Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday. And now, this impressive fellow joins the cast of the excellent sequel, John Wick: Chapter 4. In it, Adkins plays a fellow appropriately named ‘Killa.’ And yes, the dude fits perfectly into this wild world. Joining Mr. Adkins in the fourth John Wick includes a few heavy hitters in the action world, making it all the more thrilling for those of us in the audience to take in.
Recently, I spoke to some of the cast members of John Wick: Chapter 4. It’s been amazing having the chance to cover each of these films, and this fourth time feels particularly special with folks like Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Mr. Scott Adkins.

Early reactions to "John Wick 4" are calling it the best of the franchise and one of the best action films ever made. Regardless of the overexcitement that can occur at a premiere, there's still a lot of high praise surrounding John Wick's ongoing dispute with the High Table. Chad Stahelski returns to direct with a script by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. The globe-spanning story is also receiving some acclaim, so expect a little bit of actual drama mixed in with heaping amounts of martial arts mayhem. Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishbourne, and Ian McShane all return to aid Keanu Reeves on his quest to stay upright and breathing, but Donnie Yen, Rina Sawayama, Bill Skarsgård, and Hiroyuki Sanada may stand in his way.
