Will Jurassic World 2 Devour the Summer Box Office?

Will Jurassic World 2 Devour the Summer Box Office?
After an utterly disappointing Memorial Day holiday weekend and the first frame in June, the summer box office has slowly but surely started to rebound in the past few weeks. Ocean's 8 put up a strong debut of $41.6 million two weeks ago, and last weekend, The Incredibles 2 set a new box office record with a whopping $182.6 million, the highest debut ever for an animated movie, shattering the previous record of $135 million by Finding Dory. Even if The Incredibles 2 pulls off a minimal drop it will still fall to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, with a projected debut of $193.7 million.

We made this opening weekend projection back in May with our summer box office predictions list, but when the first round of predictions from other analysts surfaced later that month, they put this epic sequel's opening weekend between $140 million and $150 million. We're still sticking with our original prediction, though, which would be an

Incredibles 2 Crushes the Box Office with Biggest Animated Movie Opening Ever

Incredibles 2 Crushes the Box Office with Biggest Animated Movie Opening Ever
Disney Pixar's Incredibles 2 opened much bigger than expectations with a massive $180 million, which easily broke the record for the highest debut for an animated film, set in 2016 by Finding Dory with $135 million. Most expected Incredibles 2 to break this record after it doubled Finding Dory's then-record Thursday tally of $9.2 million with $18.5 million, but now it's official. While it may only have one weekend at the top, with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hitting theaters next weekend, it will likely have no trouble surpassing its predecessor, 2004's Incredibles.

Incredibles started its box office run in 2004 with an impressive opening of $70.4 million, en route to $261.4 million domestic and $633 million worldwide, from a relatively modest $92 million budget. While no budget figures were given for Incredibles 2 yet, it earned $55 million in international markets for a worldwide tally of $231.5 milion. Many box office analysts were predicting an opening weekend within the $130 million to $140 million range,

Incredibles 2 Sets New Thursday Box Office Record with $18.5M

Incredibles 2 Sets New Thursday Box Office Record with $18.5M
Disney Pixar's animated sequel Incredibles 2 got off to a great start on Thursday night by setting a new box office record in a rather commanding fashion. Incredibles 2 earned an impressive $18.5 million from Thursday screenings, which is more than double the previous record of $9.2 million, set in 2016 by another Disney Pixar animated sequel, Finding Dory. Many box office analysts predicted that Incredibles 2 would beat Finding Dory's $135 million record for the highest animated movie debut, which seems even more likely now.

While the $18.5 million tally falls short of superhero blockbusters Deadpool 2 ($18.6 million), Black Panther ($25.2 million) and Avengers: Infinity War ($39 million), it did fare better than other recent hits. Incredibles 2's tally bested Beauty and the Beast ($16.3 million), Spider-Man: Homecoming ($15.4 million) and Thor: Ragnarok ($14.5 million). Our summer movie box office predictions from last month put Incredibles 2 opening weekend at $138.1 million, which is just short of the

Is Solo Finished at the Box Office, or Can It Win One More Weekend?

While Disney's Solo: A Star Wars Story had no trouble coming away with a box office win over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the movie made more headlines for how it failed to impress, underperforming with a three-day tally of $84.4 million and a four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend total of $103 million. The Star Wars spin-off had the extended holiday weekend all to itself in its debut, but this weekend it will face three newcomers, Stx Entertainment's Adrift, Paramount's comedy Action Point and Blumhouse Tilt's thriller Upgrade, neither of which will usurp Solo, or even Deadpool 2, most likely, for what could be a rather tame weekend. We're predicting Solo will come out on top with $39.7 million.

Solo: A Star Wars Story debuted in 4,381 theaters, the fifth-widest release of all time, behind The Dark Knight Rises, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Avengers: Infinity War and Despicable Me 3. It

Can Infinity War Break Force Awakens Opening Weekend Record?

Marvel continues its four-year streak of opening the summer box office season, with the release of Infinity War, but this year, things are getting started a bit early, and we're projecting it will get started in a record-breaking fashion. While the movie had been set for a May 4, 2018 release since Marvel Studios unveiled its Marvel Phase 3 lineup during an October 2014 press event, the studio made the shocking move to push it up a week to April 27, and as the latest tracking numbers indicate, that won't hurt Avengers: Infinity War one bit. We're projecting that Avengers: Infinity War will break the all-time opening weekend record of $247.9 million set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December 2015, with a whopping $252.4 million opening weekend.

While the initial box office tracking put the movie between $175 million and $200 million, just below the $202 million opening of Black Panther, the latest projections that surfaced last weekend were much,

Will Ready Player One Be the Next Big Box Office Phenomenon?

They say that the month of March either goes in like a lion and out like a lamb, or vice versa, and, at least from a box office standpoint, the month will seemingly go in like a lion and out like a lion too. The month kicked off with Marvel's Black Panther continuing its epic winning streak with an impressive $66.3 million in its third weekend, with the final weekend of March looking to be easily conquered by newcomer Ready Player One, directed by Steven Spielberg. Armed with strong reviews and positive word of mouth, we're predicting a $43.6 million debut for Ready Player One, which will easily be enough to take the top spot from last weekend's holdovers and two newcomers as well, Lionsgate's Tyler Perry's Acrimony and PureFlix's God's Not Dead: A Light in the Darkness.

For one, Ready Player One is shaping up to debut with

‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 Trailer: Marvel’s Superhero Detective Reopens Her Dark Past With the Help of a Sidekick

Marvel’s Jessica Jones” is back for another healthy dose of dark psychological thrills. The first season of the Netflix series focused on the clash between Jessica (Krysten Ritter) and Kilgrave (David Tennant), a conflict rife with history that haunted Jessica everywhere she went. Even though the private detective Defender is on a new case in the new season, the trauma from her past is likely not disappearing anytime soon. The show has never been one to shy away from the dark social issues plaguing society, and from the latest trailer, that looks to continue to be the case in Season 2.

On a more positive note, the second season will be delving deeper into the friendship between Jessica and Trish Walker, a relationship that showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has deemed “the core relationship in the piece.” Rachael Taylor reprises her role as Trish in the new season, joining Carrie-Anne Moss and Eka Darville.

More Hunger Games and Twilight Movies Planned at Lionsgate

More Hunger Games and Twilight Movies Planned at Lionsgate
It's been just two years since the Hunger Games franchise came to an end, but even before The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 hit theaters, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltenheimer teased that the studio is "actively developing" prequel and sequel ideas to continue the franchise. We haven't heard anything concrete on this front since then, but during an earnings conference call, Jon Feltenheimer again teased that the studio not only wants more Hunger Games movies, but more Twilight movies as well. However, he also seemed to indicate that these projects would not move forward unless the franchise creators are involved. Here's what he had to say during the investor's call below.

"There are a lot more stories to be told, and we're ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories."

Shortly after The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 hit theaters, rumors of Hunger Games prequels started to surface,

‘Mohawk’: An Action-Thriller With Bisexual Native Americans That Hollywood Would Never Make — Fantasia

‘Mohawk’: An Action-Thriller With Bisexual Native Americans That Hollywood Would Never Make — Fantasia
The depiction of Native Americans in the movies is notorious for its reductive stereotypes. By those standards, “Mohawk,” a bloody, low-budget survival saga about members of a flailing tribe facing off against brutish American soldiers during the war of 1812, arrives like a revelation. The sophomore feature from Ted Geoghegan is a far cry from the haunted house tropes of his debut, “We Are Still Here,” but it explores a much more realistic horror — the struggle to survive against ruthless persecution, even as the future looks grim.

It’s a fast-paced action-thriller that, while rough around the edges, delivers a wild ride — and an implicit rebuke to the limitations of Hollywood storytelling.

The movie, which premiered at the 2017 Fantasia International Film Festival, revolves around the plight of Oak (Kaniehtiio Horn), a young member of the Mohawk tribe in upstate New York, and the two men with whom she enjoys a polyamorous

Despicable Me 3 Wins the Weekend Box Office with $75.4M

Despicable Me 3 Wins the Weekend Box Office with $75.4M
Most box office analysts were predicting that the highly-anticipated Despicable Me sequel, Despicable Me 3, would have no trouble running away with the box office this weekend. While that prediction ultimately came true, the sequel came in less than expected, opening with $75.4 million, easily beating fellow newcomers Baby Driver, which opened on Wednesday, June 28, and the original comedy The House starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. While Despicable Me 3 didn't open with a franchise low, it did mark a significant drop from the last few entries in the franchise.

Box Office Mojo reports that, while Despicable Me 3 may have opened less than expected, it did break a box office record that has stood for the past seven years. Despicable Me 3 opened in a record-breaking 4,529 theaters, breaking the record previously set by 2010's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which opened in 4,468 theaters on the exact same date as Despicable Me 3 seven years ago,

With an 77 percent Rotten Tomatoes score behind it, “Despicable Me 3” is tracking to have far and away the biggest opening for an animated movie so far this year.
