Taking place a hundred years before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017), Link, Zelda, the four Champions, the King of Hyrule, and more must save the kingdom of Hyrule as a great evil begins its calamity.
I thought BOTW was great. It had a lot of subtlety in the characterizations. It didn't shy away letting things be sad. AOC feels like they underestimate their audience and not giving them a happily ever after. It felt like fan fiction in that way.
Beyond that the characterization really suffers because many times something meaningful could happen someone interrupts with a joke or something. It interrupts and doesn't let some of the main characters interact in a meaningful way.
This is only the second Zelda with speaking cutscenes and it's becoming really obvious that Link just needs to be able to talk, or at least emote more.
Gameplay was way fun though!
