Alabama Moon (2009)
Moon Blake: Just before Pap died, he told me that I'd be fine as long as I never depended on anybody but myself. I made Pap's grave just like he done Mama's. All I'd have to remember her face was one picture Pap kept, but I can remember her in the bed at night, keeping me warm from the other side.
Oliver 'Pap' Blake: [testing] Tell me again why we live out here?
Moon Blake: Because we never asked for anything. Nobody ever give us anything either.
Oliver 'Pap' Blake: Go on...
Moon Blake: Because of that, we don't owe anything to anybody.
Oliver 'Pap' Blake: Who is it that thinks we owe 'em something?
Moon Blake: The government.
Moon Blake: [about Kit] You know how he hates those hospitals.
Hal: I'm sure he hates dead a lot more.
Constable Sanders: Aw, you seem to have lost your spunk.
Moon Blake: You can't do anything to me that matters.
Moon Blake: Can I get some more hot chocolate?
Uncle Mike: You bet you can. It's cold out here.
Moon Blake: Yeah. Can you teach me how to make it?
Uncle Mike: Well, yeah. Hey, did you make that fire with your shoestrings?
Moon Blake: Yeah.
Uncle Mike: Okay, you... you gotta teach me how to do that.
Moon Blake: [laughs] That's easy.
Mr. Gene: I hear you have plans to run away. Let me tell you about Pinson. First of all, we've never had anyone escape or "bust out," as you put it. And second of all, you are now property of the state and will remain so until you turn eighteen years of age. You look at me when I'm speaking to you. If someone comes to claim you, you'll be released into their custody. Do you understand?
Mr. Gene: If you behave, you'll have no problems here, but any more talk of escape and your stay here will not be pleasant.
Moon Blake: All right.
Mr. Gene: All right, what?
Moon Blake: I won't talk about it anymore.
Mr. Wellington: The nurses told me all Kit could talk about was his adventures out there in the woods, the weeks he spent with you. He had the best time in his whole life out there with you.
Moon Blake: I miss him, though. I miss him so much.
Mr. Wellington: I know. And it's okay that you do.
