Triple Threat Review

An action fan's dream of stars Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa, and Tiger Chen's combined forces is wasted on the forgettable Triple Threat.

Before sitting down to watch a movie like Triple Threat, the new adrenaline-filled action movie that brings together three of the genre’s biggest Asian stars, you have to ask yourself what you want out of a movie like this. If you’re looking for an intriguing plot, deep characters, or striking dialogue, then maybe you should save yourself the stream. But if you’re after memorable set-pieces, dizzying fights, and shoot ‘em up thrills… well, you still may want to precede with caution.

Bringing together Iko Uwais (The Raid), Tony Jaa (Ong Bak), and Tiger Chen (Man of Tai Chi) for a gritty, no holds barred action romp was a genre fan’s dream, and throwing in VOD All-Stars like Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite), Scott Adkins

Nickelodeon’s classic anthology horror series Are You Afraid of the Dark? is set for a return this year thanks to Paramount Pictures with the release of a live-action feature adaptation, and it seems we’ll also be getting a brand new miniseries to lead into the film.

As reported by SlashFilm, the miniseries will follow new members of the Midnight Society as they gather around a campfire in the woods to share scary stories. Further details are being kept under wraps, but it is expected that both the series and the film will feature the same cast members.

D.J. Caruso is set to direct the Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie from a script by Gary Dauberman. Both the film and miniseries are set for release in October.

D.J. Caruso to direct Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie

Last year it was announced that Paramount had tapped screenwriter Gary Dauberman to write a script for a big screen adaptation of the 90s Nickelodeon show Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and now it seems the project may have secured a director.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Disturbia and xXx: Return of Xander Cage director D.J. Caruso is currently in talks to helm the film, and – given that Paramount is targeting an October 2019 release – the studio will presumably be keen to lock the director in place as soon as possible.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? is a horror-fantasy anthology series which ran for seven seasons between 1990 and 2000 and revolved around a group of teenagers who called themselves ‘The Midnight Society’, and would assemble at night to tell each other scary stories based on fairytales and urban legends but with a modern twist.

In addition to Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Are You Afraid of the Dark? Movie Targets Disturbia Director D.J. Caruso

Let me kick this off by saying that I'm a massive fan of Nickelodeon's 90's kid-horror anthology series Are You Afraid of the Dark?. I own every episode on DVD (come on Blu-ray collection!) and, yes, I can hand over some choice episode recommends (see below). And it's armed with this love of all things The Midnight Society, that one of the upcoming horror movies that I'm looking forward to the most is Paramount's big-budget feature film adaptation.

And today we have word that the upcoming film has snagged its director in the form of D.J. Caruso. Caruso is best known for helming such films as xXx: Return of Xander Cage, I Am Number Four, Eagle Eye, and The Salton Sea. But don't let that deter you from being excited about the man's possible involvement with this upcoming kid-horror movie. Caruso also has films like Disturbia and Taking Lives under his belt.

Disturbia Director D.J. Caruso in Talks to Direct the Are You Afraid Of The Dark? Film

Paramount Pictures is looking to finally move forward with their feature film adaptation of Nickelodeon’s popular ’90s television series Are You Afraid of the Dark?

According to Bloody-Disgusting, Disturbia and Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso is in talks to helm the film from a script written by Gary Dauberman, who recently wrote the adaptation of Stephen King’s It.

When previously talking about the film project, Dauberman said it will “honor the darker, scarier tone of the show.” The show itself revolved around a group of teenagers who referred to themselves as The Midnight Society. Every week, at a secret location in the woods, one member would tell a scary story to the rest of the group, some of which were based on public domain fairy tales, short stories, or urban legends.

Caruso seems like a decent choice to take on the project, especially with a film like Disturbia under his belt.

Gears of War movie gets a new screenwriter

After spending a number of years stuck in development hell at New Line Cinema, the feature film rights to the hit Xbox video game series Gears of War moved to Universal Pictures back in 2016, and now it seems the studio is ready to move forward with its plans.

According to The Wrap, Universal has enlisted screenwriter F. Scott Frazier to pen the script for the big screen adaptation of the first-person shooter, which takes place on the planet of Sera and follows Marcus Phoenix, a convict who is reinstated into the Coalition of Ordered Government’s military to lead a last-gasp strike against the Locust Horde, a subterranean species which has invaded the surface.

Frazier’s previous credits include the 2016 action film Collide starring Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones, along with last year’s Vin Diesel-headlined action sequel xXx: Return of Xander Cage.

Gears of War Movie Brings in xXx: Return of Xander Cage Writer

The Gears of War movie has some new life. Universal has tapped F. Scott Frazier to pen the screenplay for the video game adaptation, which has been gestating for a couple of years now. Frazier previously penned last year's xXx: Return of Xander Cage, as well as The Numbers Station and Collide. Should his draft of Gears of War get the go-ahead from the studio, it would easily be his most high-profile project to date.

Previously, Avatar 2 writer Shane Salerno took a crack at the adaptation. Apparently, Universal wants to head in a different direction with it. According to the new report, F. Scott Frazier is writing an entire screenplay and it doesn't sound like he's simply going to do a rewrite of what's already been put to paper previously. Universal initially acquired the rights to the blockbuster video game franchise from Microsoft in 2016. Development has been a bit slow up to this point,

The Gears Of War Movie Moves Forward with Screenwriter F. Scott Frazier

Universal Pictures is moving forward with their big screen adaptation of the hit video game Gears of War.

This project has been sitting around waiting to be developed at the studio for a couple years. They picked up the rights to the property back in 2016, but now according to The Wrap, they’re ready to get serious about moving forward with it. They’ve hired screenwriter F. Scott Frazier to write the script. Frazier’s previous writing credits include Collide and xXx: Return of Xander Cage.

I think that the films Frazier has worked on have been pretty mediocre action film projects, so I’m not expecting much from the Gears of War script that he’ll write. I’m sure the movie will look visually awesome, but as I’ve said many times before, visuals don’t make a great film.

The story is set on the planet Sera,

Ruby Rose Exits Twitter After ‘Batwoman’ Casting Backlash, Says Fans Calling Her the Wrong Lesbian for the Role Is ‘Ridiculous’
The CW announced August 7 that Ruby Rose, the Australian actress best known for her breakout role on “Orange is the New Black,” would be leading its upcoming “Batwoman” television series in the title role, but not every fan of the comic book superhero was thrilled with the casting announcement. Angry “Batwoman” fans took to social media in the days following Rose’s hiring to slam the decision by using the hashtag #RecastBatwoman. Fans complained that Rose was the wrong LGBTQ actor to play the superhero and noted that, unlike the character in the comics, Rose is not Jewish.

Rose, currently starring on the big screen in “The Meg,” responded to the backlash by removing herself from Twitter. Rose deleted her Twitter account after sending out one final message to her followers (via Vulture): “I am looking forward to getting more than four hours of sleep and to break from
