Exclusive: Lionsgate India is teaming with Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment and Kavita Sharma Gandhi’s Efar Films for a pair of movies.

Lionsgate, Airlift producer Abundantia and content developer and distributor Efar Films are lining up the films, which are billed as “a genre-bending adventure” and a “rom-com like no other.”

Details on the pics are scant, but the first will blend comedy with action in a story “that promises thrills and drama loaded with fun.” The romantic comedy will include “loveable and memorable characters.” Scripting is underway on both, with “exciting, top-of-the-line create talent” leading them.

Actress Mita Vashisht, who is known for films like ‘Droh Kaal’, ‘Dil Se..’, ‘Chhorii’ and others, is heading to the Cannes Film Festival as her film ‘The Shameless’ has been selected to be screened at the festival.

The actress recently took to her Instagram and shared the news with her followers as she uploaded the poster of the film with the Cannes Film Festival’s official tag.

Mita wrote in the caption: “We are at Cannes!!!! 2024! Shooting for The Shameless last year in March in Nepal…hadn’t realised that the next year meant I/we will be heading out to Cannes…it has still to sink in.”

The film follows the story of Rani, who is an Indian sex worker. Rani goes on a pilgrimage to a remote temple, where she confronts her past, including a love affair with a man imprisoned for murder in Bengaluru.

Mumbai, April 2 (Ians) Actress Nushrratt Bharuccha says all for the love for fashion, as she wore a “corset” she couldn’t breathe in.

Nushrratt took to Instagram and shared a video.

In the clip, the actress is seen dressed in a white corset and cargo pants as she poses in an elevator.

While coming out of the elevator, Nushrratt said: “I’m gonna collapse a lung.” To which her stylist replies: “That’s okay”.

“She said that’s okay to my collapsing lung,” Nushrratt retorted, and added “I cannot breathe”.

For the caption, the actress wrote: “Premika ne pyaar se pose bhi karliya! In a corset I couldn’t breathe in! All for the prem of fashion.”

Talking about work, Nushrratt will be seen in the second instalment of ‘Chhorii’, a horror film directed by Vishal Furia. Released in 2021, ‘Chhorii’ was a remake of the Marathi-language film ‘Lapachhapi’.

Amazon’s Prime Video is lining up eight original films from India, as part of an almost 70-strong slate across features and series.

Anil Kapoor will star in Subedaar for the streamer. The action title follows a man struggling with civilian life and trying to rebuild a relationship with his daughter. It is directed by Suresh Triveni and produced by Kapoor’s own Anil Kapoor Film Company, alongside Abundantia Entertainment, Triveni’s Opening Image and Communication Network.

Prime Video has also announced Ae Watan Mere Watan, starring Sara Ali Khan as a college girl who becomes a freedom fighter during the 1942 Quit India Movement.

Director Bhav Dhulia, who is known for his works like — ‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter’, and ‘The Freelancer’ has teamed up with Abundantia Entertainment for two feature film projects.

The projects are an engaging, large-scale, action-thriller tinged with a deep patriotic flavour, and an equally thrilling underdog story, inspired by true events set to introduce Indian fans to a whole new style of investigative storytelling.

Exclusive: Crypt TV, which is best known for Peacock’s Girl In The Woods and Facebook Watch’s The Birch, has set up its first domestic feature film.

The company, which was launched in 2015 by Jack Davis and filmmaker Eli Roth with Blumhouse Productions as an investor, has set The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster from writer/director Bomani J. Story.

Starting production in North Carolina in June, the film is a reimagining of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, following teenage anti-hero, Vicaria, who is on a desperate quest to cure death. With brilliant intelligence and a willingness to lose it all, Vicaria is able to resurrect the corpse of her recently slain brother, but unknowingly creates an unstoppable monster hungry for revenge.

The film is a tale of conflict narrated through the life of a celebrated journalist and her cook. Chhorii, the Hindi-language horror movie from Mumbai’s Abundantia Entertainment and LA-based Crypt TV, has had a sequel greenlit after a successful streaming debut.

The film, which premiered at the Goa International Film Festival, bowed on Amazon Prime Video on November 26 and became the number one title in India on its week of release.

Star Nushrratt Bharuccha and director Vishal Furia will return for the sequel, which will start where the original ended, with Sakshi (Bharuccha) picking up the pieces of her traumatic experience in the sugar cane fields.

Amazon Prime Video India has boarded Chhorii, the upcoming horror and social drama produced by CryptTV, India’s Abundantia Entertainment and T-Series.

As Deadline previously announced, the film stars Nushrratt Bharruccha in a blend of horror and social drama, telling the story of age-old societal beliefs and practices that give rise to tales of terror. Vishal Furia directed by the project, which is a remake of Furia’s Marathi-language horror Lapachhapi. Mita Vashisht, Rajesh Jais and Saurabh Goyal also star.

Producers on the movie are Bhushan Kumar, Krishnan Kumar, Vikram Malhotra, Shikhaa Sharma, and Jack Davis. Amazon will release the film globally in November.
