- To impress a sceptical, moralistic Alex, Belle gives up escorting to become an office temp but she is terrible and quits after only one day. He returns to her but their night of passion is a disaster. Firstly he keeps imagining all her men lined up at the bottom of the bed. They are then interrupted by a drunken, miserable Ben who has thrown over his girl-friend and declares his feelings for Belle, unaware that Alex is in the next room and can hear everything.—don @ minifie-1
- Hannah packs up all her Belle clothes, shoes and toys. "I need to get Alex back, so I've decided to go straight," she tells us.
Ben sits down next to Hannah on a park bench. She brought him pastries, the customary offering when you've slept with your best friend, apparently. They both think they should talk. She tells him she's quit being an escort and got a proper office job. She tells him it's the only way she can make things work with Alex. He can't believe that's what she wants to talk about. She says them sleeping together was a mistake and they should forget about it. He says he needs to get to work. She asks if they're cool and he gives her a not-at-all-cool thumbs up.
Hannah answers her door. It's Alex, who isn't exactly happy to see her, but came when she invited him anyway. She shows him that she's thrown out everything related to escorting. She tells him she got a proper job. And it's all because she wants them to be together. He asks if that's it, because if it is, he's going to leave. She asks him to wait, she wants to know what he thinks. "I've never felt so humiliated, disgusted and appalled in my life, and I've never felt so cheated, manipulated and deceived," he says. "And, if I'm honest, I've never hated anyone as much as I hated you that day." She says she's sorry and he says "me, too" and leaves. She cries.
Ben tends bar at work, brushing off a woman who hits on him.
Alex buzzes again at Hannah's door. She wipes off her tears and opens the door. His car battery is dead and he wants to use her phone.
He calls whatever British AAA is and they'll be there in an hour. She asks if he wants to wait there and he says no and leaves, adding some fine insult to that injury.
At home with the woman who was hitting on him earlier, Ben explains all his reasons why he can't sleep with her, including that he just broke up with his girlfriend. Then he seems to come to his senses and kisses her.
Hannah finds Alex waiting in his car in the garage. The car people called and it's going to be a whole lot longer. He goes upstairs with her to wait, noting that she ruined his exit. She assures him it's fully intact.
Upstairs she tries to talk to him about starting work tomorrow and wanting to make a good impression. He asks if she's going to go to bed. She tells him not to worry, she won't touch him. "Not unless you pay me," she giggles uncomfortably. "That's really inappropriate," he replies.
At the woman's home, careful not to wake her, Ben picks up his clothes and makes a stealth exit.
Alex wakes Hannah up in the morning. He didn't hear her phone ring. She doesn't feel well, he says she's fine. "See? This is why we should be together: I always think I'm dying and you always know I'm tired," she whines.
She's late for work. He finds that her phone was unplugged. She comes out, dressed up professionally. She tells him they were good together and asks if they'd still be together if she wasn't an escort. He says yes. She says she's not. Anymore, he adds. She invites him to dinner. He walks away then walks back to ask if she unplugged the phone. She says yes, but only because she loves him.
Hannah arrives at work, where she's loaded down with some serious collating and stapling work. She starts making copies, trashing the first few attempts. She reminds herself she loves Alex as her brain slowly turns to mush over the copier.
Her boss checks on her, finding she's made a huge mess all over the floor. He decides to give her a special task, something easier. She'll be shredding tons of paper using a tiny shredder. She quits.
At the bar, Ben works, completely drunk, going on and on about how difficult Hannah is.
Alex joins Hannah. She has music on and lights dimmed, but he needs lots of promises that she won't go back to that life. He also asks her how work was and she says uneventful. "I know this isn't what you want, but I promise you I'm going to keep on making mistakes until I do the one thing that makes you love me again," she cries. It works. He kisses her. That was easy. Soon, they're in bed, but it's not working. She tries to help, but it doesn't work. He imagines all the men who have been in that bed before. She wants to try something else, but he tells her to just lie there. That's the end of it. He says he doesn't know why he said that. But she does: he thinks she's a whore. He's trying, but he can't get some things out of his head. It was too soon.
Her door buzzes. It's a very drunk Ben, saying he was mugged. He comes up, not making much sense at all, but she figures out that someone stole his beer. Alex comes out of the bedroom, asking if everything is OK.
Ben throws his phone across the room, breaking it. Ben tells Hannah they're through and she should find someone else to complain to. He tells her he broke up with Vanessa and "did sex" with a girl last night. He tells her he broke up with Vanessa because he loves someone else.
Alex comes out and asks her to come to bed, but she says she's just going to stay with Ben a minute more. "I thought it was Belle complicating things," she confides to us, "but it was me all along."
Next week: Stephanie at the door with an offer for an outrageous amount of money for one hour. She says it's not like anyone will know, then Bambi tells Ben about it.
