- Paul takes Clyde downtown, the younger Langer having completely forgotten his two friends. Paul tells him that the pendant will give them anything they want, and then orders him to forget about it. Luke and Rani try to figure out what to do. Mr. Smith still won't activate, and Rani worries that Sarah Jane will flip once she finds out what Clyde has done. They decide the situation is out of their control, and call Sarah Jane. Unfortunately, the hospital in which she is hunting a slug-like alien has a cell phone ban, and the two teenagers cannot reach her. With no other options, Luke gets an idea, and video calls Maria Jackson and her dad Alan in Washington D.C.. Maria answers, and she and Rani are able to meet properly for the first time. Maria welcomes her successor into the fold, and asks what they need. Luke asks for her dad, and Alan volunteers his services. They send him a sketch of the pendant and ask him to hack into UNIT files to see if they have any information about it. Meanwhile, Paul uses the alien necklace to acquire a sports car for him and Clyde. Luke tries to call Clyde, but his friend rejects him as a stranger. Alan is able to break into UNIT archives, and finds that the pendant was found in the 1940s, before the military base at the time was destroyed by a bomb, taking the pendant with it. They built Park Vale on the same site, and the pendant was unearthed with the new construction site. According to UNIT, the pendant belonged to a warfareing race called the Berserkers, who sent the pendants across the galaxy to create soldiers. Once the pendant has been used enough, it turns its user into a Berserker themselves. Maria tells Luke and Rani that they have to find Clyde before his dad turns into a monster. They tell her that he doesn't know who they are, so Alan uses UNIT technology to track him. Paul and Clyde go on a spree across London, and the mark from the pendant becomes more and more distinct. Paul starts to see reflections of himself as a Berserker, but ignores it.
Luke and Rani go to Carla and tell her that Paul has taken Clyde with him, and get her to drive as they track him. Paul and Clyde enjoy their newfound freedom, and Paul tells him that they can do anything. Clyde is suddenly distant, and Paul orders him to tell him whats wrong as they pull off the road. Clyde asks him again how he could just up and leave him without a word when he was young. Paul insists that he tried to make it work, but there was nothing to be done. Clyde opens up to him, admitting that his sudden departure felt as though his dad had died, and left him terrified that one day his mother would up and leave him too. Paul didn't realize how deeply he'd hurt his son, and says he wants to make up for it. Unsure of how, he uses the pendant, telling Clyde to forget those feelings of pain and fear. Clyde is lighthearted again, and Paul tells him that they are going to get a yacht and sail the world in luxury. Clyde says he should call his mum first, but Paul becomes jealous and orders Clyde to forget his own mother.
Luke, Rani, and Carla track the two using Alan's tracking software. Carla tries to call her son, but Clyde doesn't recognize her number, and ignores it. Paul can feel the pendant taking him over, and races for the coast. The tracker finishes downloading, leaving it up to Luke and Rani as they hang up. Unwilling to sit back and wait for news, Maria gets an idea on how they can help further. Clyde and Paul make it to the marina, but Paul starts to transform into a Berserker. Clyde tries to get help, and Luke, Rani, and Carla arrive, but Clyde doesn't recognize any of them. Mrs. Langer and the others watch as Paul becomes a fully formed Berserker, and takes Clyde hostage. He tells them that he will take command of the whole world for the Berserker war effort, using the pendant to give out his orders. Sarah Jane suddenly arrives, having been contacted by Maria and Alan, and Clyde runs to her, having never forgotten her. She tells Clyde to trust her, and the friends he cannot remember, and encourages him to remind Paul of his humanity. Clyde carefully approaches Paul, and shares memories of him growing up. Carla steps up as well, reminding Paul of their life together. Paul begins to remember, and the force of the memories is able to drive out the Berserker influence enough for Paul to remove the pendant. The necklace's curse breaks on everyone it has manipulated, including Rani's dad, and Clyde reunites with his friends. Sarah Jane takes the others and leaves Clyde to be alone with his family, telling him he already knows what needs to be done with the pendant. Clyde and his parents talk, Clyde suggesting that he use the necklace to fix their marriage, but Carla and Paul admit that the cycle of events would only repeat itself, with Paul eventually walking out all over again. Clyde points out he could just order them to stay together, but his dad reminds him they would just be living a lie if he did. Carla lets Clyde say goodbye to Paul, who admits the real reason he came back to England. Mel, his partner, is pregnant, and he is too scared of repeating his past mistakes to face her. Clyde tells Paul that he doesn't need his dad anymore, but the new baby does, and tells him he needs to return and commit to being a father for good. Paul leaves, and Carla tries to take in everything she's learned. Clyde tells her he can't give up his life helping Sarah Jane and fighting alien threats, and though she understands, she can't bare the thought of her son being in danger. Clyde decides to use the pendant to make her forget the Berserker, before throwing it into the ocean forever.
Later, Clyde goes to see Sarah Jane, and apologizes for telling his dad their secret. Sarah is understanding, saying she would likely have done the same in his situation. He asks about her parents, and she tells him that even though she can't really remember them, she still misses them. She notices Clyde still has something to say, and nudges him on. He confides in her that he isn't always as cool or unbothered by things as he pretends to be, and she tells him that he doesn't have to hide his real feelings. The teen tells her that he worries that without her, and their friends, he would be too much like his dad, but Sarah tells him not to underestimate his own strength. He thanks her, and leaves her alone with her thoughts. She goes to find an old photo of a young couple, and looks at it longingly.
