Eleonore

Napoleon longs for an heir, but Jospine fails to become pregnant, so his sister Caroline (Janina Faye) arranges for a new mistress (Diana Quick as Eleonore) to do the trick. An imposing new character Madame Duchatel enters played by Stephanie Beacham,as yet another of his mistresses, bringing impressive decolletage to the neo-Greek style of dress femme cast.

Napoleon makes it clear that as emperor he is above the law, and imposes himself on a young girl who Josephine has assigned to spy on him, in an effective subplot, but it is Beacham who shines in this segment of the series. . Holm concocts a plot to have a child with one of his mistresses and have Josephine to pretend to be the mother -she's willing but Nappy fears they would be found out. Josephine accuses her husband of having had incest with his three sisters, and she continues to angle to retain her status as his wife.

Beacham tries to manipulate Napoleon, wanting him to elevate her even in public to a level equal with his wife but he resists, instead reassigning Mme. Duchatel to Josephine's entourage.

Talented actress Quick has one good scene, defending herself when pregnant, trying to convince a skeptical Holm that he's the father, but despite her character getting the title she is not the central player here.
